I was wondering how they would do the Nordic and Alpine events though, and I see now that they run them as separate championships. Alpine is this week and next week in Sweden, while the Nordic starts on the 20th in Austria.
And I did double check that I got the right country with the right championships, as back-to-front as it seems to me!

And then there's Freestyle, where the championships have already started:

There aren't many places that could host both Alpine and Nordic championships in reasonable proximity. For one thing, a ski jump is required (due to Nordic Combined), but even without that requirement, facilities tend to be focused on one or the other.
Snowboard and Freestyle also have their own World Championships (currently underway in Utah).
Biathlon is a separate federation entirely.

Very little tbh. There's a separate thread for PEDs in sport called They're All On Drugs. We did talk a bit about the Froome controversy latl year but otherwise the dopers just get a brief mention here and there.
{It's a survey, not a competition! We're all winners here ;-) }Last edited by Kevin S; 05-02-2019, 00:05.

She competed at the last two Olympics, finishing 7th last year. However it is only this season that she has started representing Britain - she appeared under the French flag at both Olympics. She was born in Hemel Hempstead but moved to the Alps with her family aged four.

I've never been a big fan of Lindsay Vonn, but it is great to see her end her storied career with a medal at the Worlds, particularly after her crash in the Super G.
Štuhec is one for the big occasion. Nine World Cup wins in all disciplines over nine seasons; two World Championship golds. As always, Slovene golds are celebrated in Casa Ursus.

I'll probably need to do that again in the new year as snooker and basketball should overtake F1 and maybe Sumo.
It wasn't that many years ago that cricket had a similar number to the likes of cycling, tennis, rugby union and baseball.
Disappearing from view:
UFC
Badminton
Table tennis
Swimming
Absent for a while:
Squash
Winter Sports
However there'll be the four-yearly boost for some of these in Tokyo 2020.Last edited by Kevin S; 03-12-2019, 17:09.

Yeah, looking back, Rugby Union broke the 2000 barrier in 2015 at the last World Cup. One factor was that it was hosted in England of course but another is not having Toro in the scrum any more.

Yeah, the early kick offs for matches in Japan will have suppressed some of the traffic on the thread.I probably posted less when I was out there too.
Barracho was still around and posting on rugby threads as well as Toro in 2015.

I really should be adding more darts posts - but feel I'd probably be talking to myself.
With what's happening on the amateur side though, there's quite a lot to talk about. The fact the BDO may be no more in 6 months time really is something...
