The original player nominations for the opening round of the Fed Cup World Group were announced last Tuesday. There were some tasty looking line-ups as players felt the pull of national duty / did the necessary to be eligible to play in the Olympics. 6 of the top 10 down to play, and another 7 ranked from 11-20 awere due to be involved.
They probably have been withdrawals though, a la J. Konta of Britain. I’m thinking one A. Kerber might also be giving this one a pass.

Comments
Both Romania vs Czech Rep and Germany vs Switzerland look like titanic matches.
Bit of a car crash for the Netherlands against Russia.
Wot no Dasha Gavrilova for Australia??
The USA should take it seriously and wheel out their big guns... very formidable, especially against a Radwanska-less (either of them) Poland team.
Davis Cup R1 comes at the end of the month, between Dubai and Indian Wells.
