    International Cricket Thread

There's certainly not enough to occupy one if the opposition keep flicking leg stump half volleys in the air to short mid-wicket.

      South Africa win.

India vs Australia looks intriguingly balanced.

And Bangladesh will have to do well to avoid a notable win in Sri Lanka after their hosts had a middle order collapse and are now eight down with a lead of only 139.

Lara and Tendulkar started their careers when the standard of Test bowling was very high. Smith, Kohli and Root are great batsmen in any era but getting to 5000 faster than Lara and Tendulkar says more about the comparative difficulty of the eras.

Tamim makes 82 and Bangladesh get their first ever win against Sri Lanka, and do it in SL to the bargain.

Pujara has ground Australia into the dust, and you'd think that they could fold tomorrow.

Australia hanging on for grim death on the fifth day.

Fair play to Australia, what an effort to draw that Test. But it wasn't just the batters who stepped up to the plate - their disciplined bowling was crucial in never letting India quite get out of sight.

Perhaps the most patience Australia have shown for a while - 2.04 per over x 100 overs. Under 2 an over on the last day (India perhaps should have bowled more than 93.4 overs, needing the win).

Disappointing to learn that Dharamsala does not have the Himalaya(s) End after all, but - officially - the uninspiring "River End" and "College End". It might as well be in Nottingham.

Meanwhile the talking point in Hamilton is less the cricket (rain off and on) than Scott Kuggeleijn being called up (though not in the final XI) immediately after his rape trial. He was acquitted, so in theory (and in law) there's no obstacle, but the reporting made for uncomfortable reading.

I'm surprised at how well Australia are doing in India, especially when I remember how awful they were against South Africa before Christmas. Kudos must go to the selection of the younger players and the ditching of others. Ruthless but necessary and obviously paying dividends.

The Ashes at the end of the year is going to be interesting and England could struggle if we look at recent performances.

I'm not convinced with this Australian side. Their batting is thin and has a very long tail. If it wasn't for Smith - and finding a net bowler who takes wickets by bowling spinners that don't turn - they'd be dead and buried by now. Kohli misfiring has also kept them in - and pretty poor Indian use of DRS and insipid Indian captaincy. That's not to say that Australia haven't worked hard to stay in this series, but there is a brittleness to this team - you wouldn't put money on them batting for two days.

I tend to get muddled up by the modern Australian pacemen, but isn't Cummins the one who bowls really fast and gets injured a lot?

Match intriguingly poised here and it's moving on enough to suggest there should be a result.

India need 106. Lyon is going to have to a lot of work to get them all out for under that.

This week seems to be an example of home advantage reasserting itself, with India and NZ bossing Aus and SA. Thus SA's win in Aus was doubly vital.

Pakistan need 9 wickets on Day 5 to take the series. WI need 297 runs, which seems way beyond them. Pakistan strong favourites; no Chanderpaul to do the blocking these days.

                                                Wickets, mainly.

Royston Chase's century almost got Windies a draw, but Misbah and Younis sign off with a test and series win. Some big shoes to fill there.

It was the last ball he had to survive in the match, because Chase would have seen out the last over. One of the most unwise choices of shot (in the circumstances) in Test history.

Pakistan, to be fair, had some bad luck: Chase was out off a no ball (which are usually not spotted these days), and the wicket seems to have become as flat as a pancake.

Chase is perhaps the most promising WI batsman to emerge this century (admittedly not a high bar). Currently averages 48.
