    International Cricket Thread

Nicely poised second test between India and NZ, with NZ 113/2 chasing 376. One of those chases where you keep thinking the batting side have a chance, before they ultimately lose. No Williamson, which obviously hurts them a lot.

Australia are getting a bit of a pasting by SA in some ODIs.

New Zealand having a good collapse in Indore, they've gone from 118-0 to 148-5, both Williamson and Taylor getting out cheaply.

The real story in that series is the scorecard before Williamson returned: neither team in the Test had a player with more than 8 letters (Nicholls).

You can now choose: call it a record or start searching. Full names only, no "Venkat"s.

I talked about that on what appears to have been the wrong thread.

South Africa walked the fourth ODI against Australia yesterday, giving them a 4-0 lead.

The astonishing game was on Friday -- and I missed it. Australia set a target of 372, with Warner and Smith scoring centuries. Only once had a target as high as that been chased down (SA's 438/9 against Australia in 2006).

After a bright start, SA started losing wickets. I switched off when Roussouw fell in the 24th over at 179/4. With Duminy and Miller at the crease, these were the last specialist bats. And Duminy soon fell for 20.

Miller went on to score a 118 off 79 balls; young bowler Andile Phehlukwayo chipped in with 42 off 39. SA won with four balls to spare.

Meanwhile, New Zealand seem to have gone a bit shit again don't they? What's the story there?

Anyway, no thread on the Bangladesh v England ODI series? Thoroughly absorbing all the way through, I thought.

India is always a tough tour, especially when your strength is swing bowling, and when Williamson was missing too it was too much. Ashwin does appear to have become world class too.

I agree about the Bangladesh vs England series, very impressive win by England against a team who are very strong at home, especially with so much batting missing.

Being on bloody Talksport rather than TMS must have harmed it. You're right though, really enjoyed all that I saw of it.

Australia have been whitewashed this year in all three formats:

                      Sri Lanka in Tests (3-0)
                      South Africa in ODIs (5-0)

What do OTFers make of the Philip Hughes inquest and the contradictory reports about the sledging in the match?
Apparently this lead to his family walking out.

I'm not sure it provides any clarity, Ant, but the piece by Daniel Brettig on the Cricinfo website is worth a read - it's here

Not a fan of that Brettig article. Seems a bit too keen to exculpate every player involved.

                            ----

West Indies won't do it, but they have given themselves a hint of chance of beating Pakistan after Azhar Ali's triple century allowed Pakistan to declare on 579-3. Windies replied with 357, before Bishoo took 8 wickets and shot Pakistan out for 123.

Chasing 346, Windies were 193-4, but just lost 2 quick wickets. Now 215-6 with Darren Bravo 90*.

                              245-6 now. Inching closer.

We're in the last session of the match now, so I guess a draw is part of the equation too.

Big over, as first Holder survives a big appeal and Pakistan's last review, only for Bravo to go later in the over. You'd think a draw is their best hope now.

Losing your 9th wicket of a great rearguard effort to a run-out is such a West Indies thing to do.

Losing both your last wickets to run outs actually moves from being such a West Indies thing to do, to being the sort of thing you'd expect from Pakistan.

Without too much knowledge, my first reaction is some sympathy for the players accused of not detailing what sledging went on.

The intial call to the Emergency Services seems to have been classified as non-life threatening which seems odd, but again I'm relying on one report (on the World Service Stumped show).
