    International Cricket Thread

Saw the predictable end this morning, eight defeats in a row and only a single win in the last 16 in Asia.

The final test match is being played in a few days time so the early finish is going to help Starc who has looked like the only Australia bowler to trouble Sri Lanka.

First day of the third test and West Indies have let India off the hook. They had them 121/5 and then at 142/5 had Ashwin caught off a no ball by useless lump Shannon Gabriel. In fact, it was a back foot no ball according to Cricinfo.

      It's now 227/5.

332/5 and Ashwin and Saha both have centuries. Shannon Gabriel has a lot to answer for.

All went a bit wrong from there, and all out 353.

What was quite nice about that was Miguel Cummins picking up his first three test wickets. As they pointed out on the Cricinfo commentary, he bowled 281 balls without a wicket, including the previous test, and then took 3 in the next 10 balls.

West Indies now to labour to 225.

They've made it to 107/1 at stumps, Brathwaite on 53 not out.

They had me worried at 202/3. However, I was of course underestimating them. A collapse of 7/23 at the hands of Kumar did indeed see them limp to precisely 225 all out.

India can now bat for another day and leave West Indies four sessions to survive. Which they won't.

Impressive predicting, but inaccurate reporting. We're on Day 4, because Day 3 was washed out. So unless India score very rapidly they are likely to have 2 or 2.5 sessions to bowl the Windies out - assuming no more rain delay.

Well done, Etienne, I wondered how long it would take you all to spot that.

                    India will still win though.

Sri Lanka make a terrible start, as Starc and Lyon have them 26-5. A little bit of a recovery to 80-5 now.

A lot of a recovery by the close, with de Silva making a splendid century, and Chandimal giving strong support.

Nicely poised that one. Shame about West Indies, all out 108 and lost by several light years.

Herath's just had to retire hurt after being hit on the box.

Both out after making centuries and occupying the crease. Chandimal scored at a much slower rate than de Silva.

Herath probably won't bat this innings so at 355 for 9 it's the end of the innings. Starc again has 5 wickets and is the pick of the bowlers.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Australia try to play this.

They seem to have made a decent fist of it so far, both Marsh and Smith into the 60s by stumps at 141/1.

Unless the final pair for Australia make runs this test is going to be almost evenly balanced. Both sides had very similar innings with two batsmen making tons, a bowler taking five wickets, and another batsman making a decent contribution, except in Sri Lanka's case Herath had to retire hurt.

Yes, couldn't be much more intriguingly poised.

The other subtext is that Adam Voges average has fallen into the mid 70s. Given that he is 36 I was genuinely worried he'd retire with an average of 90+.

He's clearly a pretty good test batsmen, but that would be almost as much of a statistical aberration as Andy Ganteaume.

Sri Lanka make a comeback from 26 in the opening session and a small deficit in the first innings to thump Australia for the third test match in a row. Herath took 28 wickets in the series.

Be a shame if SA vs NZ was ruined by weather, it looks an intriguing series.

Especially frustrating given that both Windies and SA have lost entire days due to a wet outfield without any additional rain.

Meanwhile, in proper sport, South Africa finish day one of the second test against New Zealand on 283/3.
