Scotland must have played 20+ other countries before England, including numerous touring sides and the ICC trophy
Just counting ODIs gets one to 13

Australia, Bangladesh, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, West Indies, Bermuda, Canada, Kenya, the Netherlands and Papua New Guinea.

Statsguru doesn't seem to have their results before 1999.

Probably can't count games played before 1994 when they became Associate Members of the ICC, they were part of England (as Wales remain) for international cricketing purposes up until 1992 - so England weren't cherrypicking their players, they were just picking them. I think Gavin Hamilton may be the only player to have switched to represent England after that date. Not a great success. Don't know all their opponents between 94 and 99, but they did play in the 97 ICC Trophy to qualify for the 99 World Cup, which adds Hong Kong, Italy and Denmark to ursus' list.

Dougie Brown (who was doing co-commentary yesterday) played for both countries. Presumably that was after 1994.

Lovely hundreds from Sarah Taylor, in particular, and Tammy Beaumont in second ODI. England's new-ball bowlers keeping it impressively tight too, but without a breakthrough yet

No finer, or more heartening, sight than Sarah Taylor in full flow.

South Africa slowly progressing to 90 odd without loss after 20 over – something interesting could be brewing if South Africa keep wickets in hand for as long as possible.

Cricinfo is saying that the game is being held in Brighton???

The boundary is a bit smaller than the men's game, not all that much, but enough I'd have thought to have some kids sitting inside the hoardings. Could be a nice touch. Having said that, I once saw Ed Smith chase a ball back to the boundary at Beckenham and narrowly miss taking a young kid out off with a flailing spiked boot.

Australia are supporting the decision not to have a dedicated thread for this tour without tests.

They are currently 90 for 5 after having won the toss and elected to bat.

Can someone explain why Buttler keeps wicket and Bairstow is just a normal fielder in white ball cricket when in Tests Bairstow keeps wicket and Buttler is just a normal fielder?

Amusing comment on TMS earlier when Zaltzman said Love Island would be much better if it had a ten ball over at the end.

Still reckon Australia can make a competitive total while Maxwell's out there

I understand the idea of playing ODI cricket across the period of the summer next year's World Cup will be taking place in but, given how weakened this Australia side are now, how much good is it going to do England? Shouldn't they at least have had a triangular series involving Pakistan as well, it would give them a little more experience of tournament conditions.

I know the banned Australian batsmen and injured pace bowlers aren't all proven ODI performers but they are denuded enough for someone on TMS earlier to start comparing them to the official side in the Packer era.

Hilarious interview with Justin Langer trying to make out that there's a huge philosophical issue surrounding acting like a rude twat on a cricket field. Yeah but, who's to say that's not banter?

I hadn't seen Warner crying before. Maybe he'll give up the sledging and get batsmen out laughing when he reappears.

Looks like England are jogging to victory here, so let's just reflect on this extraordinary scorecard from NZ-W-Ire-W. Tubby, wasn't it you with the cricketing crush on Amelia Kerr?

Are there rules stopping her being recruited into the men's team?

Never in doubt once <checks notes> Willey got in the groove.

It'd be well exciting to see a woman drafted into a men's game I reckon – she's a leg spinner, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that the best legspinner in a country could not be a man, in the same way that you could make a case for Sarah Taylor being the best keeper in England – beauty of cricket innit, it involves very many different skills, some of which have nothing to do with brawn or speed.

I hadn't realised that she'd taken 5 wickets as well as scoring a double century. And at 17? Bloody hell.

Anyway, Afghanistan's first ever test match has begun. They lost the toss, and could be in for a long day in the field. India currently 62/0

Century before lunch for Dhawan (that used to be a thing didn't it?). India now 157/0

Edit: yes it is a thing http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/con...ds/283003.html

Now lunch and 158/0. Welcome to test cricket

Happy to report that after a very arduous (and rain interrupted) section of play, India have been reduced from 280/1 to 328/5 making things look a lot more enjoyable
