Will be interesting to see if they do better than Northants, who took it to the 4th innings (losing by 9 wickets).

Five days (Fri-Tues) would make a positive result likely.

I should be at Malahide on Friday. Where's that sunhat?

Unlikely any ball will be bowled today, but rain has cleared in Munster, so Dublin could be dry by 3.

Play abandoned, indeed without any ball bowled.

                  Good start for Ireland.

What rules apply in cricket in terms of whether or not a match is declared a draw? As you say, we appear to be batting well, but bowling has long been our Achilles heel.

It's a draw if it's unfinished when the allotted time runs out, basically.

So if Pakistan run riot, pray for rain, then!

That has been England's tactic often enough...

Oh, and have a little more faith in your team! Pakistan are not running riot yet. 60/2 after 25 overs is an honours even type of score, unless the pitch turns out to be a demon.

Lunch now - 67/2 after 28 overs, so as you say, both teams still seem to be finding their feet.

An inch of two away from being 64/3 instead according to Cricinfo, the last ball before lunch drawing a thick edge that flew just past gully and ended up as three runs. If you do the usual 'add two wickets' thing, Ireland's position in the match doesn't look too bad currently.

Cricinfo suggests they should have given the opening bowlers a few more overs.

Rain forecast for Tuesday so a draw is a definite possibility.

95/3 after 36, building up an ominous head of steam ...

A partnership of 24 is not (in normal circumstances) an ominous head of steam. Ireland are doing just fine.

Obviously Pakistan have just lost another wicket but a score of 100-3 (or now just over 100-4) sounds good to me (for Ireland I mean) I think you need to relax a bit DR. This is test cricket. It's designed to take 5 days.

Thunder, lightning and now rain, so looking like close of play today.
