India in bother at 28 for 3 at the close after skittling South Africa for 286 and reminding us that their seam attack is more than decent. Should be a good series this, between two sides who at full strength are superior to Australia and England. (SA weren't at full strength in England last summer)

South Africa are back to the quartet hunting in packs: Philander 3, Steyn 2, Morkel 2, Rabada 1. India can't compete with that assuming the ground staff keep preparing green tops (although it means they can't complain when India prepare spin tops next time in return).Comment

Andile Phehlukwayo will probably take Steyn's place. He's young, lacks test experience and obviously not nearly as skilled as Steyn. But he is no mug either. But yeah, it's as shame that Steyn is injured again. At least it's not a recurring injury. It would be great to see that quartet take on Australia in March.Comment
