Greg James, the Radio 1 DJ, hosted their coverage in the autumn with the expert analysis in the studio from Michael Vaughan, Graeme Swann and others. They used the Australian TV coverage. It worked well imho.

Ah, I saw some Australian tests on BT in the winter but hadn't clicked that the deal included The Ashes too.

Kevin Pietersen as a pundit? Fucking hell, thank gawd TMS is the default audio when watching cricket.

Coincidentally, the BBC have confirmed they have the radio rights for the The Ashes today.

India get another huge win in Sri Lanka, the first test was 300 plus and this time an innings.

That team is just disgustingly good. The volume of runs it scores is enough for two teams.

Scyld Berry's autobiography has an excellent chapter on the same match. I think the danger was excessive and unpleasant and also unnecessary because the Windies would still have been clearly superior on a fair wicket with today's bouncer rules in place. Patterson was probably as quick in that game as anyone has ever been.

This seems like pretty major news (the series itself rather than Collingwood's involvement) :

Collingwood set for World XI T20 series in Pakistan

The T20 series is indeed a big thing, and there are persistent rumours that West Indies will play a three match T20 series in Lahore later in the year and that Sri Lanka may play a one-off on their way back from the UAE.

Giles Clark seems a strange choice to lead the Pakistan task force, but I guess that the ICC has to ICC

I'd never really noticed the resemblance between Boycott and Lance Armstrong before.

Boycott has just proven again why he never had the character to deserve a knighthood. The WI knighthoods were either given to players who were vastly superior to Boycott (Sobers, Viv, Weekes) or awarded by their islands not by the UK government (the three Antiguans). Clearly these honours reflect service after retirement, political significance (Viv again) and character as well as being great players. Boycott also had a domestic abuse conviction, and was an incredibly selfish batsman, which none of the WI greats were.

There are also other England cricketers who should be in the queue before Boycott, such as Gooch (better batsman than Boycs IMHO although his rebel tour might count against him).

Anyone who went on a rebel tour should get nothing.

Agreed, but that's apparently not the reason Boycott was turned down.

Australia are 14/2 against Bangladesh in reply to 260 in Mirpur. The first test between these two since 2006 and it should be an interesting contest.

Edit: 14/3, Shakib has just removed the nightwatchman for a duck

He has played 5 more Tests than the man he passed, Benaud, and a lot more Tests than the next spinners in line: Grimmett, MacGill, O'Reilly, Mallet, of whom O'Reilly was by far the greatest, second only to Warne.
