    Low Bridge

Former Bear Stearns CEO at centre of cheating scandal in competitive bridge.

A glance at this lot is all one needs to know that there is nothing that would stop them getting their hands on the prize.

Here's a Newsweek piece on the same story, focusing more on the professional bridge players involved (including the clean player who put himself on the line to expose the cheaters):

Couldn't happen to a nicer group of people.

The guy who brought down Bear Stearns (who I have had the misfortune of meeting) and a bunch of mercenaries playing for the likes of Monaco.

Bridge seems to be all over the news today. Just finished reading this.

By the way, the EBL would love you for choosing the Sport forum for this thread, ursus. They are currently going through some kind of legal appeal (application for judicial review I think from memory) to get bridge recognised as a sport for UK legal purposes. Their motivation is to get funding from the relevant quango, but my tax lawyer mind immediately leaps to the potential VAT exemption implications under Group 10 Sch 9 VATA 1994.

I don't disagree with Marina Hyde's conclusions in that column Harry posted, but it's a very dull and uninspired piece by her usual high standards.

Yes, very far from her finest work. Which she seems to acknowledge in the piece.

Has la Hyde written about Cameron face-fucking a pig?

She may be concerned that satire is dead.

It's referred to in the second piece on the link.

                    She's back on form.

Over at Elstree Studios, meanwhile, another force was called to investigate a fight between panellists on the Celebrity Big Brother discussion show. I don’t know if you’ve seen the legendary saloon-bar brawl from Dodge City, but those aforementioned panellists were former porn star Jenna Jameson, former Big Brother contestant Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace, former model and former Celebrity Big Brother contestant Janice Dickinson, former ’Allo ’Allo! star and former I’m a Celebrity contestant Michelle, and former Teen Mom star and former Celebrity Big Brother contestant Farrah Abraham.

So when I tell you that Jameson blames it on that “whacked-out hasbeen”, you’ll understand how that doesn’t exactly clear things up.
Though I do wish that she devoted to her talents to things I actually cared about.
