    Most feared driving areas

For me, anything on or outside off stump. I can't drive worth shit except off my legs, it seems.

Dogleg lefts, as I've always had a natural slice.

I'm o.k. straight and in the offside, I have major problems at the moment with anything on the legs whether it's short or full. I don't know why but I get my timing all wrong.

I made 14 not out at the end of the innings last night and they were all straight drives or square cuts. And it was the muddiest wicket you've ever seen. But we played regardless.

I meant to add that they were all ones and two twos because the ball wouldn't travel more than aobut 20 metres before pulling up in the wet grass.

I'm a very top-handed player, though; it comes of batting in a lh stance despite being right-handed. So pulls and glances and on-drives, I can do.

I'm fine with driving, and cutting/dobbing it unconvincingly behind square on the off-side, but anything round the legs I play all round. I'd love to be able to noncholantly flick it through midwicket but just can't

Me neither. I always get clean bowled, leg stump.

This thread will prove very useful for future opponents of the OTF XI.

Is this thread about cricket, or golf, or both?

Mostly cricket, with a minor golf motif.

barndoorio, driving something on your legs that's short has got "Caught" written all over it.

I think he meant he can't do leg-side strokes generally.

Though actually, you can on-drive off the back foot; I've seen it done very well. Not by me I should stress.

Doesn't the ball still need to be a good length? If it's short AND you're on the back foot then you're driving a ball that could be waiste high, you're just gonna plop it up to the bowler or (short) mid on/off.

I am all back foot in cricket. Can't come forward to meet the ball to save my life. It must be my West Indian genes showing through.

                                    The "batsman's safe line"?

(I suppose I should just be thankful they didn't use the term "batter".)

Is there a cricketing country that calls the popping crease the "safe line"?

That diagram is missing cow corner. It's also got long leg where I call fine leg, and fine leg where I say "on the 45".
