    Question about Olympic torch

Saw the Sky news report on the torch being lid in Tiananmen Square, would anyone know if the flame will be kept alight on the plane?

        Question about Olympic torch

Thanks for that Ursus, it sparked my imagination as 19 years ago potentially few thousands student protesters peacefully seeking democracy were gunned down at the very same place where they lid the torch.

          Question about Olympic torch

          I'll never forget that day.

And its a big part of the reason why I won't be watching the opening or closing ceremonies or anywhere near as much of the Games as I usually do.

            Question about Olympic torch

If you limited your Olympics-viewing to those held in countries which are not involved in the brutal suppression of democracy in the recent past, then depending on your age, you'd probably be restricted to, what, Montreal and Sydney? (Even Sydney's debatable.)

I didn't watch Moscow, LA or Atlanta, either, SR, but the craven use of Tiananmen for propaganda purposes less than 20 years after the massacre is to my mind a rather different story.
