    Bloody hell, what happened there?

It's a complicated system, as always seems to be the case in Kerry football, but immediately after the All-Ireland, the senior club championship, involving eight teams, was played, and Stacks finished bottom of their round-robin group. The competition was then parked while the county championship was being played, and to ensure they avoided relegation, the Tralee side had to qualify for the county final. They failed to do this, and today lost to Templenoe, who finished bottom of the other round-robin group, in the relegation play-off.

Sky cease their broadcasting agreement with the GAA - if no-one else bids for them, you would imagine the Saturday games will revert to RTE by default, but perhaps Virgin Media will express an interest. As for overseas rights, I'd expect them to be held by GAAGO, unless either BT or Premier come out of leftfield to fill the summer lacunae.

I believe Channel Four were the last channel to show All-Ireland finals FTA in GB in the Nineties?

Kudos to Ciarán Kilkenny, who, completely impromptu, conducted his entire RTE interview tonight as Gaeilge. To the shock of precisely no-one, David Clifford won the Footballer of the Year award, with Limerick's Diarmuid Byrnes (sic) taking the hurling gong. Jack Glynn of Galway and Mikey Butler of Kilkenny secured the Young Footballer and Hurler accolades.

              2022 Hurling All-Stars:

              1. Nicky Quaid (Limerick - 2nd)
              2. Mikey Butler (Kilkenny - 1st)
              3. Huw Lawlor (Kilkenny - 1st)
              4. Barry Nash (Limerick - 1st)
              5. Diarmuid Byrnes (Limerick - 3rd)
              6. Declan Hannon (Limerick - 3rd)
              7. Pádraic Mannion (Galway - 3rd)
              8. David Fitzgerald (Clare - 1st)
              9. Adrian Mullen (Kilkenny - 1st)
              10. Gearóid Hegarty (Limerick - 3rd)

              12. Shane O'Donnell (Clare - 1st)
              13. Aaron Gillane (Limerick - 3rd)

In the first of probably a number of retirements of heroes of the last decade, Donegal captain Michael Murphy has retired.

Sadly, Kilmacud are similarly eviscerative in the football decider so far.

The GAA will broadcast 38 Championship games on their own digital platform, GAAGO, with annual packages starting at €59, before rising to €79 in the New Year.

Kerry's oldest surviving All-Ireland winner, "Mixie" Palmer, has died at the age of 95, having secured Celtic Crosses in both 1953 and 1955.

Dublin defender Jonny Cooper has announced his retirement from inter County football. A terrific player, and as underrated as anyone who won seven all Ireland championships could be. He'll be difficult to replace.

A creditable performance by Tralee's Kerins O'Rahillys, only losing by a goal to unbackable favourites Kilmacud Crokes - David Moran belied his age in midfield, but they were ultimately too erratic against the Dublin champions. Rathmore and Fossa have every chance of scooping the intermediate and junior crowns, with the Cliffords having effectively played a full calendar year without any meaningful break.

That's a huge blow to the Mayomen, although he had to retire at some time. Mayo won't be competitive for a couple of years.

Extraordinary club finals yesterday to conclude this thread - Fossa won the junior decider with victory over a dogged Stewartstown Harps from Tyrone, but extraordinarily, the Ulster side had four players sent off, while on the other side, both Cliffords were also dismissed. A rather more sedate (indeed almost soporific) intermediate final, as Rathmore also defeated Red Hand opposition in Galbally Pearses, with 44-year-old Kenneth O'Keeffe (brother of former Kerry netminder Declan) between the sticks for the Kerrymen, 27 years after last playing in Croke Park.
