    He certainly is.

Meanwhile Bernal has had multiple surgeries, apparently successful. But the hospital updates make clear how horrendous the injuries are. https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/ega...pinal-surgery/

It's great to see it, in that paper of all outlets...

It has been fucking sickening to see
them in the pro peloton over the last few years

2023 Grand Depart will be in the Basque country, which ought to please quite a few people.

Is there a difference in French between the name of the Autonomous Region and the name of the lands that include part of France?

The official term is communauté autonome du Pays basque, though one also sees Pays basque espagnol and Pays basque sud.

Though Pays basque is often used in day to day speech to mean the entire region on both sides of the border.

Those opening stages look great, there'll be huge crowds, the roads will go up and down all day and it'll all be incredibly nervous as that's the sort of terrain where GC contenders could easily lose time. Also pleased to see they're going up the Alto de Jaizkibel on the Sunday although I'm old enough to remember the last time they did that.

Brandon McNulty often seems to go strongly at the start of the season and so it was again today when he won the Trofeo Calvia in Mallorca with a 65k solo attack. Belgian prodigy Cian Uijtdebroeks finished 27th on his professional debut.

Did we mention Amy Pieters’ injury before Christmas? She looks in a really bad way.

You've not posted that correctly UA, is it about Bernal? He's incredibly lucky to be alive.

                        I think it’s Pieters.

                          Fixed.

There is a story going around that the medical team believed that there was a 95% chance that Bernal would be paralyzed.

                          He is a lucky man.

Annoyed that even with the friendly time difference I'm too busy this weekend to watch the CX Worlds. The relay test event was yesterday, the handover looked weird, a literal fence between legs.

Dominant win for Zoe Backstedt in the junior race.

There was a story doing the rounds this week about there potentially being a CX World Cup round in or around London next winter, possibly at Crystal Palace Park.

Watched my first road highlights of the year on GCN with the Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana. Very happy with the choice, a good look at some of the new kits in action and some gorgeous Mallorcan scenery.

I mixed up the Junior's and U23's didn't I? Women U23 is going on now Van Emple, Van Anrooij & Pieterse are going ot be on the podium with one play to go. It's just a matter of the order.

Just watched the women's elite race on the red button, I'd managed to go all day without finding out the result after going out last night. Blimey that was a right duel between Lucinda Brand and Marianne Vos, eventually won by Vos in a sprint. She first won this race in 2006!

How much was Puck forced to go left on that rise and how much did she do it it slow down van emple?

Oh the elites are on the BBC? That should be better quality than tiz.

Off we go for the men.

Does the us not have somewhere wet to hold this?

That's unfair but the surface seems very consistent.

Is the British jersey the only one that looks so corporate? The HSBC stuff seems more suited to the colours.

Belgian men compromise each other's race - shades of last year's road worlds there - and Pidcock makes his big attack and pulls clear...

I wasn't confident about Pidcock given that he wiped out in his last race, pushing too hard. But he seems comfortable here.

                                                    Iserbyt 3rd!

                                                    Pidcock the cyclocross world champion.

What road course would suit him best?
