Starting a round of the County Championship on Sunday while England are playing a home Test seems perverse even by ECB standards.

My son is at Edgbaston watching Bears v. Lancs. One of the kids he used to regularly play against in his Cheshire county playing days - George Balderson - has taken two Warwickshire wickets already. Dylan is worried he might bump into George's famously obnoxious dad, difficult to hide in such a sparse crowd.

In addition to being flogged by Surrey at Taunton, Somerset now feature two concussion substitutes (for Davey and C. Overton).

            Wrong thread, I think.

              Correct

Trent Bridge, not for the Championship

Surrey should win pretty easily today. Something that's been likely since the first morning really.
Lancs need 237 runs with seven wickets in hand. That could go any way.
Gloucestershire lead by 41 runs with 3 second innings wickets in hand. Kent need to wipe up that tail as quick as they can.

What happened to Leicestershire? Innings totals in that match, Leicestershire 440, Notts 548, Leics 99

Shan Masood got 98 in Derbyshire's second innings today (to help beat Middlesex, woohoo!) which not only left him 2 short of a century but 7 short of getting to 1000 runs this season.

That was at Chesterfield, which looked to be a nice ground to visit

Surrey are taking much longer than I expected.

I guess that they don't have plans for the evening.

Nicely poised in the Warwickshire-Lancashire game. Lancs needling 164 to win but four wickets down - two of them being Croft and Vilas traditionally the best run chasers at the club. No Salt either, but to their credit Lancs don’t seem to be shutting up shop for the draw with a 70+ stand between Wells and Jones giving them
                        hope at tea.

Hants are making a meal of their chase.
I think Lancs have to shut up shop in their game, five down now and still needing over 100 runs

No, Lancs still only four down, 92 to get with the Wells/Jones stand now 140.

Surrey finally win, but lost seven wickets.

Hanta have licked up the pace.

They need 37 with four wickets in hand.

Wells goes to a boundary catch for 142. I’m watching this on live stream and Lancs have only been going at just over three an over but needed to accelerate. Lamb up next who can hit but now five down. Not sure where they’ll go with this - 75 needed.

                                * they’ve sent Balderson in first
                                * and it was Jones who went not Wells

                                Otherwise accurate

Hampshire are eight wickets down and require seven runs to win

Lancashire won by four wickets with Wells unbeaten on 175. A beautifully paced chase in the end.

Absolutely bloody typical performance. A very average squad with a coach who's been given a number of chances but still is flailing around. If the ECB golden vision of the future comes into being, no prizes for guessing which County will be first for the cull. Apart from the occasional spark, the past 10 years have been grim.

ESPN+ is streaming the Ranji Trophy semi-finals and final with a mixed Hindi/English commentary.

Full replays available, which is helpful given that the matches start at 23h30 Eastern time.

Surrey have suspended selling new memberships. There was a warning on their pre game email yesterday that if you don't have your card you'll be refused entry.

They say they're doing it so blast and hundred games aren't oversubscribed.

The Blast Multiplex the ECB has put on YouTube is having some teething problems, but is entertaining for neutrals who prefer not to commit to a single match.

Warwickshire hit 261/2 ! That's a ridiculous score. Trent Bridge again.

The boy watched this for most of the chase innings and enjoyed it. The Essex-Sussex match was a good one for it to finish on too, going down to the final over.

Bopara looked as if he just might get Sussex over the line until he holed out in the last over.

And Notts were actually matching the Bears' ridiculous pace for the first 13 overs or so. The outfield at Tent Bridge was parched,.which helps explain the scores.
