The US Open starts tomorrow at a course I'm very familiar with. I'll be watching it mostly to see if I can spot all the people I know who are marshalls and so on (an acquaintance was honorary starter for one of the practice rounds a couple of days ago).
As for the tournament, the stories going in are Phil Mickelson at a very familiar course trying to complete the career slam. I think it's exceedingly unlikely that he'd win two, back to back. And then there's a Brooks Koepke vs Bryson DeChambeau invented feud.
I don't think this is Bryson's course. I don't think he's ever done well at the Farmers - he missed the cut in 2017 and 2018, and the rough is very rough and going to be even rougher for the open. You can lose your ball in 2 inch high grass at Torrey even when it's not prepared for the big tournaments. Hitting massive bombs that drift off the line is probably not a good strategy.
Sadly, the other competitor for most offensive player on tour, Patrick Reed, does have a good record here.
I feel like it might be a weekend for the old geezers who hit straightish. Adam Scott and Justin Rose, perhaps.
