Andrew Samson is back, for those keeping scorers, and has started exactly the way Jason Roy hasn't. Apparently the Ireland team have played more First Class games than England.

Heh. That FC stat is bizarre. 2 men from from my old school (Wilson & McCollum)

Quite a strong breeze helping with the swing, isn't there?

Ooof, Denly plays on... to his back foot. And survives.

                And now he's gone!

If the early signs from this match and the all-Aussie tour match are anything to go by, it's going to be a bowlers' Ashes.

Interesting to hear that there's a new groundsman (curator) at Lords, Mick Hunt having retired. Lords has been extremely inconsistent over the years. Wow, three down!

Ireland win this and they're World Champions, yes?

Lineal champions, yes, that's the way I understand it.

Yeah, like Scotland in football in 67.

Why aren't these wickets being marked by a bloke playing AC/DC on a cricket bat?

That guitar thing. I didn't actually see it in the World Cup. Did it not involve someone actually playing the guitar?

Thanks very much Ursus – although that raises as many questions as it answers.

Derek, I would be interested in Ray's professional opinion, but my understanding is that the standard of playing was quite dire.

I think Henry Moeran from TMS played Van Halen's Eruption, which is amazingly impressive.

Meanwhile, England are six down. I mean, they're doing their bit to make this four day Test thing work.

Yeah, it was absolutely dire. Like someone trying out their first ever guitar in a music shop.

Why wasn't Bairstow out when he walked away from his crease at the last second earlier?
