    Ashes to Ashes

England vs Australia - women first, men in a few weeks (hopefully by which time Jimmy Anderson will have recovered from whatever has forced him off the pitch today).

Australia's women look so so strong, especially with the bat. Very difficult to see England winning in the ODIs in particular.

    First match about to start.

(apologies if I've missed an existing thread)

Excellent, thanks for getting us started Etienne. And once again a big boo for England cricket matches being only on Sky bloody Sports so most people don't get to see it.

Agree that this looks a tall order, but hopefully home advantage will help England out a bit. The comprehensiveness of the wins over West Indies in the past couple of weeks can only help the team spirit too.

Looking ahead to the men's matches, I've just mentioned on the County thread that Anderson has just pulled up with an injury.

I'm sure folk have come across this already but the women's series consists of three ODIs, one Test, then three T20Is. You get two points for winning an ODI or T20I and four points for winning the Test (presumably with one point for a tie or NR in the short matches and two points for a tie or draw in the Test). The Ashes are won by the team with the most points at the end.

Multi-sport prowess seems to be a thing among Aussie women.

Maybe Ash Barty can get a game for the Southern Stars after Wimbledon.

                  44-5 now, looking bleak.

With the increased focus on the women's game, with this being an Ashes series and with the game being live on Sky, surely you'd have thought they would be using DRS? I know Grace Road is basic, but not that basic...

Surrey Stars (the Oval team) or Southern Vipers (the Rose Bowl team), but yeah, would probably be worth her while sticking around through August if there isn't much tennis on.

The Southern Stars is the Australian team's nickname.

The Super League finals day clashes with the start of the US Open anyway, so Barty probably wouldn't be down with that.

I know it's tempting fate but this is a decent recovery effort from Sciver and Brunt.

I'd like it if they could get the game wrapped up one way or the other before the football starts.
