Houston gave up two first round picks to get a longer contract on their books. I know that Westbrook is younger that CP3, so I wonder if Paul and Harden really did hate each other.

The Clippers have definitely put the league on notice, blowing out Golden State on the road, 141-122. The lead was in the 30s in the third quarter. I feel like the Lakers could have beaten them in the opening game, but that's not a knock on the Clippers, more about how the Lakers let themselves down. The Clips' bench depth and quality is just scary, and that's what really shines in the playoffs.

If you have an Athletic membership, this story about Glenn Robinson III is wonderful:

Anthony Davis, please stay healthy for the whole season...

The Lakers went on a 22-0 run with 5:47 left in the third quarter, the Lakers’ longest run in the last 20 seasons. Normally, that would be the biggest news of the night, but because of Davis’ performance, it was just one history-breaking stat of many. Lets go through all the records Davis broke, shall we?

Let’s start off with his free throws. Davis shot 26-27 at the line, which broke Dwight Howard’s Lakers franchise record in free throws made. He also become the fourth player in NBA history to make 26 or more free throws in a game. The last person to do that was Michael Jordan in 1987.

In just the third quarter, Davis made 18 free throws, an NBA record for most makes in a quarter. He also became the first player to have a 40-point,-20 rebound performance in 31 minutes or less in the shot clock era. Lastly, Davis became the sixth player in Lakers history to get 40 points and 20 rebounds in a game.

Steph Curry has broke his non-shooting hand. Not as catastrophic as it would have been if it was his shooing hand, he will likely be back by Christmas, but the Warriors must be wondering if this is the final sign that they should give up playoff hopes for this year and instead think about trading either one of Draymond or Russell and trying to get picks in return. They were smart and made the pick they sent to Brooklyn for Russel top-20 protected, so they can tank this season and not worry about having to give that up. Getting Klay back healthy next year, not pushing Curry to the limit this year, and accumulating picks to either build for the future or use as trade bait might be the best thing in the long run.

My heart bleeds for all the tech bros who have spent zillions on courtside seats at the new arena only to see them outscored 30-1 by the Phoenix Suns.

Haha, this indeed isn't how the Lacobs envisioned opening their tech arena.

The Dubs are being extremely conservative with Curry's return--they said they won't even update his status until Feb. 1. Highly doubtful they'd wait that long if they had any chance at the playoffs.

An admirable sentiment, but it is going to be very hard to achieve without a change in the business model.

The last several years has seen a lot of success on the court, but it has also seen a real shift in the match-attending fanbase that has been accentuated by the move and the resultant increase in prices.

I'm afraid that they are going to find that tech bros are a lot less loyal than their old East Bay base.

Good win for Inca's boys last night. In the first ten minutes it looked as if the Mavs were going to run them off the court.

This man is 34 years old

Something that the ESPN announcers didn't discuss in that game was why Doncic was allowed back on the court after he cut his head open on Dwight Howard's chin. The trainers just seemed to apply some pressure then sent him back out. He kept touching the cut and checking for bleeding. I thought that any bleeding injury had to be fully taped up and covered before someone could get back on the court. Also, they were alluding to if he got a concussion ("he looks a little dazed out there" "he still seems to be shaking off the effects of that bump on his head") but never came out and wondered if he should be held out. Disappointing.

Trae Young is doing some nasty things as a 20-year old.

Shooting from the sideline logo, Steph Curry range also. He and Luka are getting to be must-watch viewing.

LeBron recorded a triple-double against the Thunder last night, meaning he has now recorded a triple-double against every team in the NBA. No other player in history has done that.

Bwahahahaha, the Warriors are 3-13? That's hilarious.

The above may give an indication as to my feelings about San Francisco's new pro basketball team.

A mid season cup competition would be intriguing and could be easily adapted to include overseas teams.

The NHL should pay attention as well

Cesar leaves out one of the major black marks on Stern's legacy, IMHO.

What's 3x3 basketball? How is it at the Olympics? Where is it played?

It is widely played in gyms and playgrounds, and there is now a professional league fronted by Ice Cube and supported by major television networks

The FIBA/Olympics version seems to be envisioned as a way of making "lesser" countries (and smaller players) more competitive internationally, much in the vein of Sevens Rugby.

It looks like the Detroit Tigers font but not one of their logos.

Looks like LA to me in a style of the Detroit Tigers "D", probably some streetwear cap
