Thank God they didn't enforce the follow-on. At least there'll be a fourth innings, although possibly not a fourth day.

What happened in that innings – bad batting, great bowling, or both?

Decent read from the Guardian about a more hostile bowling line up.

                Yes, emphatically, with these boundaries.

This is more impressive than 2009 or even 1994 in that those were amazing one man spells whereas this seems to have been destruction by a true quartet all keeping it very tight.

I would also infer that WI did their homework and realized that England are weak and collapse-prone against pace if you get into them early.

Watching the highlights it looked to me as if the level of bounce was giving the English batsmen the most problems. The Windies bowlers bowled straight and persistently targeted the splice of the bat with their lengths, and that seemed to catch England's (admittedly seriously under-cooked) batsmen cold. Again, it comes back to the nature of modern tours that do not allow time for proper warm up matches.

Either that or England's batsmen are just crap.

England's top order has been poor for ages. But that was a terrific team bowling performance from West Indies - the balls that got Buttler and the way Holder set up Root were particularly top-drawer.

Holder reaches his century and England look likely to be thoroughly beaten. The five wickets yesterday gave a sense of false hope.

A century from 99 balls no less.

The lead is nearly 500, a ton for Dowrich and a declaration is the expectation.

200 for the 7th wicket is taking the piss. What's the record?

347 for Windies vs Australia in 1955

They won’t get that, but already are in the all time Top Ten

How many full test match days have their been without a wicket falling?

A fair few. This is apparently only the third which has involved both teams batting though.

No wickets falling the day after 18 wickets fell sounds like it should be unprecedented.

England have come into this game well undercooked in all departments. Only Burns with the bat and Anderson & Stokes with the ball have performed.

The selectors also had a throwback bad Test: Choosing Curran to open the bowling in Barbados is like one of those 1980s clueless decisions.

Presently though, this is more than likely to be one of those Windies defeats that England turn around quickly after their complacency has been shaken off.

No, I'm not sure, I think this is a decent Windies side, on home soil at least. And England's batting is not very good. Only Root and Foakes average over 40 and Foakes' average is almost certainly a false one. I'd put the next test as 60/40 Windies favourites.

I hope you're right because it would mean the West Indies really have turned a corner. The toss will be crucial.

Shuffling the pack. Denly to make his debut but still no Broad.
