Indeed - for Ireland to win the group, they need Scotland to win by any margin, given the latter can't catch us.

Which teams, if any, will have a tougher QF or SF opponent due to these cancellations?

France could have topped their pool, rather than finish second and face Pool D winners. Though I don't think there is much between us and Australia.

To put this in context, Dublin gets 750mm a year. Holy fuck!

According to some photos, the water is knee deep inside the stadium in Tokyo. I'm not a groundskeeping expert, but I'd say that's going to make for a very heavy pitch tomorrow if it does go ahead

There isn't a game scheduled for Tokyo tomorrow, do you mean Yokohama (practically a suburb of Tokyo really)?

Ticketholders for Namibia-Canada who have not already made the journey north to Kamaishi have been told to wait until the match is confirmed.

Namibia v Canada has been cancelled, which will be particularly poignant for the people of Kamaishi I'd imagine.

                    Yes, quite sad

Dreadful for the teams involved too. Canada are utterly desperate for a win, their rugby program has been in serious free fall, and Namibia has never won a World Cup game and it’ll be a while before they get a chance that good. This could have had some real passion involved but we won’t see it now.

You'd hope somebody with a bit of imagination would invite the teams to Kamaishi for a special game in the future, practising the kind of international outreach World Rugby preaches.

Meanwhile, if the Japan-Scotland game goes ahead, then the English cricket authorities should hire every drainage engineer, covers manufacturer and super-sopper and give them a lucrative contract for next summer.

And it's on. Come on Japan!

                            Japan-Scotland will be played.

                            Just announced

Hopefully Scotland will now get knocked out on merit.

                                  Anti-Scotland or pro-Japan?

I'd like Japan to go through. Not anti-Scotland, but just on the side of the underdog. They produced the moment of the 2015 World Cup and weren't rewarded for it, having beaten Ireland this time surely they deserve a qf place. Of course, it would be deliciously ironic if the game ends up as a draw on the pitch.

More pro-Japan than anything else. As Rogin said, that 2015 victory was fabulous and I really want them to progress.

Uruguay look alright. Although Wales seem to be dropping everything.

Quite a pundit line up. Jamie Roberts, Sam Warburton and Alfie.

                                            Canadians are the best.

Bit of a flattering scoreline for Wales there. The play after 80 minutes was great fun.
