Getting all your work done by 9.05 am on Monday...

...then skiving off for the rest of the week!

That's Pablo Martin, Spanish golfer, who for the second consecutive year has won the opening event of the European Tour season, the Dunhill Championship in South Africa.

Any victory on the European Tour is a priceless thing for the journeyman pro, because along with the prize money from that actual event, it guarantees entry into all other tour events for the following two seasons. All non-winners therefore have to finish pretty high up the ranking list to guarantee their tour ticket among the pros who will get one for the following season, as only something like the top-ranked 30 or so non-winners are guaranteed one of the 125 for the following season (as opposed to facing the end of season "live or die" qualifying school events against the thousands of golfers trying to take their place on tour). So to get it nailed in, so to speak, in the first event ... pretty good. And especially so in the case of Martin, who despite his win here last year was ranked, er, 286th in the world coming into this event, but can now relax about his card until the end of 2013 (as this counts as a "2011" win).
