Nobody dares sub-edit Tom Humphries anymore.

    Occasionally, that's a good thing.

There's a bar named after him in Woodside, Queens, y'know.

    (Og, not Humphries).

I'd be surprised if that was named after him. After the romanization of the irish catholic church after the famine, the number of male names shrank to in order, Patrick, john (sean) michael, Joseph, thomas, peter and james (seamus) with a couple of local saints like colmán (colm)

The women's names then shrunk to some permutation of Mary, (or variations there of like margaret) Brigid, catherine

Séan óg just means john junior. There a lot of Sean ógs.

Now if it was an Irish pub called Aisake's then it would probably be named after his brother

It's a sports bar of sorts. And it's relatively new (in an area with lots of recent Irish immigrants), so I don't think it's just a coincidence.

Dunno for sure, but think less than 10 years, maybe less than 5.

It's not as if I'm pubcrawling in Woodside every night.

sean og's is named after its kerry owner. There is no way on earth that a kerryman would name his pub after a corkman, even one as popular as sean og o hailpin.
