    The Mardy Fish thread

Is it me, or have I missed the parents who've landed their tennis playing offspring with utterly ridiculous given names opening them to ridicule thread?

(At least old Waldo was stuck with his family name. Unlike these bastards who called their son "Mardy".)

There's also the Israeli player Dudi Sela, pronounced exactly as you would hope it would be, like someone who flogs shit.
No name can ever better the basketball player Randy Duck though.

I'm sure we've done this before, but my favourite is the wonderfully named Harry Daft.

I also re-named Mardy Fish as "Grumpy Tench" for my own personal amusement.

One of the best young players in the AFL is Steele Sidebottom of Collingwood. He has a team mate called Tyson Goldsack.

A few ex AFL player gems:

          Dick Bliss (Sydney)
          Marcus Glasscock (Melbourne)
          Frank Crapper (North Melbourne)
          Harry Horsenail (St Kilda)

In America, "mardy" is not part of our vocabulary.

There's also the basketball player Mardy Collins. I agree that it's a strange-sounding name, though. I wonder if parents name a girl Mardi, as in Tuesday.
