Europe's Ryder Cup captain, beset by personal devils because the cnuts in the media take delight in taunting him about his personal life, qualifies for the Open at St. Andrews with a course-record 62 at Sunningdale.
Monty's last Open at St Andrews, in 2005, resulted in him finishing second (one of his five runners-up finishes in majors; he's not won one yet). He was second last time to Tiger Woods, who's unlikely to repeat that victory; and ahead of Fred Couples, Sergio Garcia and Jose Maria Olazabal, who are all even more unlikely to be there this year.
After Tom Watson showed the way for "old players who know the course like the back of their hand" last year at Turnberry, this year could - could - be Monty's year. I'd love it if he won. LOVE IT!
