    French Open 2010

Outside of Grand Slams Federer has given the impression of being close to giving up for two years now. He hasn't given that impression when it counts though and he's been talking of wanting to win the 2012 Olympics and keep going even after that.

People are very fast to jump on Federer's grave, aren't they?

He will be in the Wimbledon final, and will probably win it unless Nadal is across the net from him (and even then he still might). Who is going to beat him on a grass court? Not Soderling, he is lost at the net and with low bouncing balls, similar for Davydenko, Djokovic hasn't convinced against Federer for a while, and Del Potro won't be there due to injury. Maybe Roddick, but last year will have hurt. Murray? No, not on current form, or on physcological grounds after Melbourne.

We are back in early 2009 again, really. Federer had be walloped by Nadal in Paris, lost the epic at Wimbledon and then had the painful defeat to Nadal at Melbourn. People thought the aura was slipping then, but Nadal gets hurt and Federer goes 27-1 in the next four slams.

Remember Sodeling is good on a clay court. He beat Nadal in Paris last year for god's sake. I would compare this qf result to the time Safin beat Federer in the Aussie semi. A talented but streaky player putting in a hot performance.

SSK is right outside the slams, of course. They are tunes ups for Federer, no more. Rankings don't count for much to him either, only the slams and the Olympics.

The 1996 final was certainly a surprise line up and neither Krajicek nor Washington played in any other grand slam finals. In 2001, though, Rafter was playing in his second successive Wimbledon final and, although Ivanisevic was a wildcard, he was a Wimbledon specialist playing in his 4th final.

Anyway, Nadal is now on 7 grand slam wins level with McEnroe and Wilander.
