This Charming Man (New York Mix)

Was listening to this the other day. When I was younger, and took these things too seriously, I remember being shocked that The Smiths could have produced a "dance" record. Burn Down The Disco and all that.

It's pretty harmless really, isn't it? Couple of echo effects and the bass turned up a bit funky. It's hardly "cue electric piano" and "Jack that ghettoblaster".

I don't mind it at all. It's obviously not as good as the original, but I like how the great bassline gets more room to breathe.

It was remixed by a DJ called François Kevorkian and was only meant to be played at a few clubs in New York, but Geoff Travis asked The Smiths if he could release it in the UK as well. In characteristic Morrissey fashion, the man himself gave the OK but decided later on he hated it.

The Smiths could do funk workouts when in the mood: "Barbarism Begins At Home" is a great example.
