But oh, the smell of burnt cocaine
                        The dolor and decay
                        It only makes me cranky
                        Oh great calamity,
                        Ditch of iniquity and tears
                        How I abhor this place
                        Its sweet and bitter taste
Has left me wretched, retching on all fours

Not a song with California in the name, but an interesting ramble-y post by Ryan Adams about his album, Gold:

I always tell people that one of the main things I miss about living in LA is the light. He touches on that in the post.

Ventura Highway by (the occasionally very wonderful) America.

Nothing more American than a band formed in London* called America and singing about a Californian road.

AND THEY'RE PLAYING VEGAS NEXT MONTH!

One thing about the song California Dreamin (original not by Mamas and Papas, which I only found out today): part of the lyrics go "I stopped into a church...". How do you stop into somewhere? Is this some kind of slang which with my years abroad I'm unaware of or should it be "stepped into a church"?
