    Unlikely duets

Just stumbled across this beaut from 1987 where David Bowie collaborated with actor Mickey Rourke.

Rourke featured in the Alan Parker directed 'angel heart' in 1987. My uninformed guess is that Parker set up a meet between the two artistes and it went from there.

The song is from the album 'never let me down'

    2:40 for Rourke's rapping/talking.

David Bowie and Bing Crosby would seem to be as unlikely as they come, but the result was lovely. (cue dissenting opinions...).

I'm not a great Johnny Cash fan, but this wasn't bad.

I heard a new(-ish) David Bowie song on the radio yesterday. I think it may have been a collaboration with David Lynch (another idol of mine). However, the result sounded like standing between two (or more) rehearsal rooms with their doors open, and each one playing something completely different to the other! It made me long for 'Little Drummer Boy'.

Bowie's always done unlikely duets, which perhaps brings them full circle to become likely. Here's the Dame and Cher

I always thought the combination of Willie Nelson and slimeball Julio Iglesias was quite incongruous.

That is sublime, both in unlikeliness of collaboration and in choice of song — and, indeed, in execution. The bit where Numan takes his hat off to reveal blue hair is a particular highlight.

Motörhead and The Nolans duetting on The Young & Moody Band's Don't Do That was certainly something to behold...

(Edit: Mind you, does that actually constitute a duet?)

On Broadway wasn't that unlikely a choice for Gary Numan, David Bowie had covered it/used snatches of it.

And agree, Bowie sought out unlikely collaborations (we were surprised when he worked with Lulu), although as a teenager I wanted to die on the spot when I saw him doing the turn with Bing.

                            Yes, that's why I said "as a teenager". I was 18.

What is your point in querying it?

I found the Numan and Sayer duet pretty cringeworthy, tbh.

There was, of course, Change Your Mind, the 1985 duet Numan recorded with Bill Sharpe of Shakatak - to which I alluded recently on another thread. Nay great.

Where is the joke? I've never made any secret of my age, but I'm younger than GO.

                                        Just genuinely puzzled.

It seems like an inappropriate attempt at a put down over something you shouldn't be dissing people for. If it's not sexist and ageist, what is the thinking behind it?
