    Dan Sartain

I was shocked and somewhat upset to learn today that Dan Sartain died in March. Aged 39; I know not how.

He's an under-rated artist - when he played Oslo in Hackney a few years ago, it was barely half-full.

My favourite track is the original of Walk Among the Cobras, but he worked across a range of genres. You may have come across him supporting the White Stripes.

I remember liking a few of his songs but lost track of what he was up to some time ago.

This is a nice appreciation by a friend and collaborator. It touches upon the circumstances of his death at the end, as a warning.

Saw him a couple of times in Glasgow. Dan Sartain vs The Serpients and Join Dan Sartain are probably the albums that I enjoyed most. He seemed to be getting a fair amount of exposure then disappeared pretty suddenly. He resurfaced from time to time but never really made a breakthrough. I don't think that the cause of death was ever released.

It’s in that article Ben linked to. He took his own life.

Cause of death wasn't released at the time and hasn't been updated on news websites. I had suspected suicide. Still horrible to see it confirmed on a piece written by somebody who had known him.
