    Fred Dellar

I only just noticed that Fred Dellar, the great arbiter of music facts and crossword compiler, died a couple of weeks ago. He was 89, so had a good innings, but his passing takes away a huge link to the peak years of the printed music press. His Ask Fred column was still going the last time I bought Mojo magazine earlier this year.

    RIP Fred.

Too bad, I loved his column. I did wonder about his longevity whenever I picked up a copy of MOJO, because I remember him already being a veteran when I was reading him in the NME 40 years ago.

I was sure this had been mentioned in Music, but perhaps I’m confusing my social media platforms.

Knew his work initially from Fred Fact in the NME. Very intelligent and well-informed writer. RIP.

Coincidentally I only heard this yesterday, I was catching up on a few podcasts and it was discussed on The Word podcast, with some nice anecdotes about him. I knew he was an industry veteran but didn't realise he was quite that old.
