Darts were first seen on TV in 1976 advertising Carling Black Label.

Not sure how ‘unlikely’ that was, however.

Gil Scott Heron did the "you know... when you've been Tango'd" voiceover at the end of the adverts in that campaign.

While it's not their music, Pete Murphy of Bauhaus just being in the Maxwell tape advert was a surprise.

One of the most strangest has to be Coil composing music for British TV adverts.

Coil || Music For Commercials ( Unnatural History III ) - YouTube

Some of then sound vaguely familiar but I cannot match them to a particular product. The idea that a band who did the Sewage Workers Birthday Party and the Anal Staircase being involved with selling perfumes and cosmetics is surreal to say the least.

I fully expected that someone would have posted Iggy Pop's car insurance ad before now.

I had that lined up before finding the Lou Reed ad.

Meanwhile, Alice Cooper 'elected' to promote an indigestion remedy:

There was also the time when Pete Townshend, a recovering alcoholic, chose Miller Lite as a tour sponsor.

It would be unkind to say that the advert for Pat’s Chilli Dogs was the highlight of Cinderella’s career, but possibly not untrue either.

Given that there's more alcohol in the average glass of water, that was probably an apposite choice.

                                              4.2 ABV

They remove all the flavour, not the alcohol

Maybe that's what fooled Pete Townshend?

                                                I guess he won't get...etc.
