    Spencer Davis has died.

I mean, what would the Spencer Davis Group have been without Spencer Davis?

Another of those "I never knew he was Welsh" musicians/actors. Seems like they have to die before I find out.

        Some cracking tunes, RIP.

Spearmint Rhino will be spitting in your coffee for not knowing your Welsh rockers.

‘The Group’. (Except they wouldn’t have existed.)

              RIP. Some rip-roaring tunes there.

Spencer Davis's greatest achievement was discovering Steve Winwood.

I was the same. Of course, Gimme some lovin' and Keep on running will be getting the airplay but "I'm a Man" is my favourite and will be in my next DJ set. I am not that genned up on him so I expect some will be able to tell me better less obvious ones.

I'd guess his brother, bass-player Muff, knew a bit about him before Spencer did.

                        What is/was Muff short for?

The Spencer Davis Group's commercial fortunes went into decline post-Winwoods. There were some decent singles here and there, though.

Always quite liked "Looking Back", despite the plummy vocals from Eddie Hardin. Massive Attack cribbed the chorus for a section of "Safe From Harm", and SDG may have based bits of this on, er, "Looking Back" by Johnny "Guitar" Watson.

Mr Second Class is bit of an earworm, but that doesn't mean it's any good.
