Songs with a deeper meaning than is first apparent

I don’t know if I the thread title describes what I’m meaning but here goes.

This song is called Lock Keeper by folk singer Stan Rogers from Halifax, Nova Scotia. It tells of a meeting again between a ship’s captain and a lock keeper, as he’s guiding the captain’s ship through the locks. The lock keeper tells the captain he’s just become a dad. The captain sneers at this and replies, yes but you’re stuck here while I’m romancing exotic maidens in every port. and the exchange between them goes back and forth.

it’s a great song in itself but I only found out the real meaning behind the song years afterwards, in that the song was a metaphor for Stan’s life as a musician, in that Stan wanted to be BOTH the lock keeper (staying at home with his wife and family) and also be the ship’s captain (ie being on the road touring from city to city). Have a listen if you haven’t heard it before. Let me know what you think.
