I’ve just heard that Rick Laird passed away yesterday at the age of 80. Although he had a solid career before and after the band, he remains best-known as the rock-solid foundation that underpinned the pyrotechnic marvel that was the Mahavishnu Orchestra. This is ‘Sister Andrea’ from the 1973 live album ‘Between Nothingness And Eternity. John McLaughlin guitar, Jan Hammer keyboards, Jerry Goodman violin, Billy Cobham drums and Rick Laird bass.
