Finally, this came up on shuffle yesterday while I was sitting in the garden enjoying the June sunshine. I hadn’t heard it for several years (probably not since it came out) and it’s not really a jazz record at all, but it sounded so good I thought I would share it this morning. The Lone (Matt Cutler) remix of Egyptian Hip-Hop's ‘Yoro Diallo’ from 2012, which takes a pleasant but otherwise unremarkable tune from the Manchester indie band and transforms it into a thing of shimmering beauty.

The anniversary of Esbjorn Svensson’s untimely death on 14th June 2008 seems a suitable time to bring the Esbjorn Svensson Trio (EST) back to the thread. In the 15 years of their existence, EST (Svensson piano, Dan Berglund bass and Magnus Ostrom drums) completely redefined the art of the traditional piano/bass/drums jazz trio in a way that has often been imitated but never bettered. Recorded live in Burghausen, Germany on 2nd May 2004, this is ‘Seven Days Of Falling’ and ‘Elevation Of Love’ from the 2003 album ‘Seven Days Of Falling’.
