By the 1980’s Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers weren’t quite the creative force of previous decades, but the band remained a showcase for up-and-coming young players, many of whom went on to greater things. Two such were trumpeter Terence Blanchard and alto saxophonist Donald Harrison, heard here with drummer Blakey, tenor saxophonist Bill Pierce, pianist Johnny O’Neal and bassist Charles Fambrough on the title track of the 1982 album ‘Oh, By The Way’.
