The Clancy brothers and Tommy Makem were an Irish folk group who became big in the New York scene of the early 60s ( Bob Dylan was a big fan). When one of them wrote home complaining about the New York winter, their mother sent over four white cableknit jumpers that became not only their trademark, but also a cliche of folk music for every satirist, from Saturday night live to Russ Abbott.
