    Punk rock radio

I am working on a short series for Razorcake’s website that is focused on interviews with punks who hosted college/university radio shows (or pirate, community shows). The series is focusing on two types of contexts: (1) Very early punk shows that were important because those shows would have been the only outlet for punks in a specific area to hear punk records. (2) Shows that existed in a scene that helped that scene get going and then that scene would have a national or international impact on punk. Pre-Internet college radio in the United States was really the main outlet to hear the bands and seemed to sit alongside fanzines as the most important way to discover new music. I assume university radio functioned in the same way in other countries, but could also be expanded to include pirate radio or community radio programming.

The first interview I did was with Rodney Anderson, who was one of the hosts of Fast ’N’ Loud on WNUR at Northwestern University in the Chicago area ( http://razorcake.org/remembering-fas...aniel-makagon/ ). And I have two others in the works (University of Oklahoma show from back in the day and someone from KXLU in Los Angeles). If you hosted a show that would be a good fit given what I described above or if you lived in a city or town where a specific show was the only outlet to hear punk records, please let me know if you'd be up for chatting/might be able to put me in touch with someone who did the show you think was important. Thanks in advance for any help or tips.

I know this is kind of a null thread since nobody replied but I figured I'd share the interviews as they are released in case anyone cares about the general subject matter. This interview is with Stephe Perry from CIUT in Toronto.

The next interview is up; it's with Chuck Roast from KPFT and KTRU in Houston, Texas. Learn about a time when playing punk rock on the radio led to death threats:

            Here's the November release:

I think I might do 3-4 more but whenever I think my queue is getting to zero, someone tells me about another show or station and I get curious. Talking with people about the shows is really enjoyable.
