No not some post punk combo from 1980 but actually a Bauhaus teacher and three of his students

Post-punk getting some global exposure via advertising.

I nearly fell off my chair last night when this came on during the half-time ads of the Germany-Netherlands U21 Euro semi-final. I wasn't really paying attention to the ad itself as I was too gobsmacked to hear an obscure indie-tune from my youth suddenly surfing the mainstream. The good thing is that, according this piece in Variety, the band still own the rights and will be getting paid. More than they earned during their entire recording career, I'd bet.

Brilliant. I wonder who the prof was? Also which version of the Bauhaus the photo was made in. Sadly many of the students didn't make it through the 1930s, which is why we know more about the faculty, many of whom managed to escape from Germany.

Identified as Berlin 1927 (problematic because Berlin didn't open until 1932, might they have been on holiday or a study visit?)

At least one of the students pictured survived

Ah, right! She married Marcel Breuer who was a Bauhaus teacher at Dessau. He was well known as an industrial designer and architect, and an associate of Walter Gropius. I wonder if that's him standing next to her?

                I vote yes

If the group photo was taken on campus, it was almost certainly Dessau, though an off campus visit to Berlin is also quite plausible

I concur. I'm pretty sure that's one his chairs he's sitting in too.

It absolutely is one of his chairs, which is why I knew I didn't need to caption the photo for you

Soursob from Glasgow. Newly unearthed (??) record or something that had been out of print for ages.

Never knew until recently that Wire had appeared on the famous German live music show Rockpalast in 1979

I think there's a box set that came out DVD/CD (and maybe a DVD/LP) combo. Of course, watching on Youtube might make the DVD less necessary. I can't remember any concert films I have seen more than once, whereas I do listen to live CDs more than once.

Not sure where to put this, but here's Henry Rollins on typically talkative form talking about The Fall:

I just listened to it. Very interesting. I like how Rollins turns the tables about 3/4 of the way through and becomes the interviewer. And as someone who really believes in the importance of college radio in the US, I was happy to hear Rollins talk about this outlet to discover new music (esp. imports that were often very expensive at different times).

Sold it during one of my mid 90s mortgage payment panic sell offs. Probably to Nott Hill M&V. I think it’ll have been in the same “lot” as the Zoo Records “Lake Placid” compilation. I don’t like looking at my formerly owned vinyl prices on ebay or discogs as collectively I think they’re worth more than my pension.

It was patchy from memory. Pretty much on a par with most regional compilations I’ve heard. Twas over 40yrs ago mind you so there’s an equal chance I’d either love it or hate it now. I think I only played it a few times and none of the songs are are ringing a bell apart from the Bunnymen. I beefed up the bunnymens very short first album by adding this version of monkeys to my home made cassette of it.

There was a scouse indie compilation with a sketched cover around then. White or cream cover with a pencil drawing on the front. I’m sure it also mentioned streets in the title. A vol2 possibly or even the original cover perhaps?

Yeah, that has a nice sound. They have certainly spent time immersed in early 80s new wave and post-punk.

I saw this band from Tampa, Florida at Lollapalooza a couple weeks back. They were on a smaller stage but I was surprised they were on the bill. I guess they don't know that Rober Smith had a band called The Glove.

Has a Siouxsie/Killing Joke vibe and fits well with another Chicago band called Negative Scanner that I posted earlier in the thread.
