I think 'The Score' is a good record and '...Miseducation...' a great, timeless one.

The reason she didn't make any more is largely because , as George alludes too, she basically had a breakdown/meltdown after huge group & solo success before the age of 23 while bringing up young children which was exacerbated by major problems with her parents, partner, management and the dubious "spiritual advisor" George referred to.

My main reason for comment is that tracks by such giants as Althea and Donna & Soul II Soul were afforded being named in a neutral fashion while Lauryn's was reduced to unnamed "cobblers".

The regularity with which these tracks rotate on 6's computerised system is enough to make one overstate one's position, tbh.

I have reservations about La Hill, as stated, but there's no debate about UTR or BTL - or indeed most of the others listed - being perfectly fine moments. Just that, y'know, nobody wants to eat pizza every day.

That Craig Charles funk show turns out to be great when I'm on a long run

Do they play the full version of Marquee Moon? If so it’s probably ‘comfort break’ related

They seem to play an awful lot of Nina Simone on 6Music. It's as if she's the only jazz musician anyone on the station has heard of.

But Maconie didn't know that she'd written "Young Gifted and Black".

Had a very strange dream last night about Radcliffe making a return by doing a one-off "Mark & Lard" with Riley on the Saturday slot before bedding back in with Maconie.

I hardly ever listen to Radio 6, but I avidly follow their new music playlist on Spotify. It's been responsible for introducing me to some wonderful new material and raised me out of that old duffer routine of thinking that good music stopped being made 20 years ago

*this slot is Tom Robinson's requests/suggestions show at weekends which might explain the Beatles' high placing here - I don't listen to Lamacq enough to know whether he plays the Beatles a lot.

And for obvious reasons Buzzcocks are leading the way since 6 December - 71 plays compared to the next highest on 29.

Given that no other station will touch most of these artists, I'm not complaining*.

(*Apart from when it comes to 6's tedious oldies policy, when I usually 'am'.)

Nina Simone is a surprise - a personal preference of Laverne?

I thought that stuck out a bit too - though that slot is Cerys Matthews on Sundays so she'll be contributing to those numbers, and she'll play Simone quite a bit I reckon.

Thank god for the internet. I don't have to listen to BBC 6 as 'least worst' option any longer. (Used to get it for free in Amsterdam using second hand satellite dish).

Any initial verdicts on Laverne/Hobbs/Keaveny first-day-at-new-job shows?

Laverne's was much less hectic than a Keaveny Breakfast Show, and for that I am delighted.

I'm not sure I quite see the wisdom of giving Lauren L the breakfast slot. She just isn't that type of presenter. I mean, it worked well when Nemone covered for Shaun K, since her delivery is that much smoother than Lauren L's - and her choice of music infinitely more interesting and imaginative than what filled Lauren's first show today.

                                                But I'll gi' it time.

Nemone was superb as Keaveney's stand-in (then again even a bucket of sick would have been a major improvement), I hope she continues to deputise for Lauren Laverne - or 'Loz Lov' as she referred to herself on her inaugural show...
