        My clue involved a specialised definition, taken from when the margin of a book page was trimmed and could 'bleed' into the printed content. gobio gobio is a gudgeon.

          Ah. Thanks. Once I had enough letters I guessed based on the (g) udgeon part of the solution.

            Reading the occasional parsing of clues on this thread is akin to trying to understand grandmasters' annotations of chess games. One comprehends the individual words but thè general level of intellect is way above this poster's head. Chapeau to all!

              (I have gone out on a limb a bit with this clue, but I'm pretty sure its fair)

                Female horse, name unknown, surprisingly found in cowshed (6)

                {Bit rusty, sorry, that could undoubtedly have been done more elegantly.}

                    That one works fine, Kevin S. There looked to be a touch of synonym-then-anagram in the first one, which would bestir the harrumphers.

                    Buffalo group with latitude (latterly) to drop manure in place by quaint manor; read about it in here (13)

                        I think you;re original one is fine Kevin S , I'm just not sure of "name unknown" is regularly referred to as NU. If it is. and I'm not aware then it;s definitely OK

                        (and I am almost certainly one of IT's harrumphers)

                                {Thanks for the feedback - I got 'NU = name unknown' from a bumper source of crossword bits and pieces but couldn't find any corroboration of it, so definitely preferred the revised version anyway.}

                                    'homeless' is a great piece of wordplay.

                                          Taking 'home' = DEN as generally accepted standard play (I think) then 'homeless' is the subtraction of DEN from MARTINEDEN.

                                          then we 'need a hand' so that leaves MARTINEL or MARTINER.

                                          anagram for the hairstyle.
