The foundation of this clue turns out to be a little more tenuous than I'd thought. There is a Wikipedia page for the solution, though it doesn't appear in mainstream dictionaries. One abbreviation used in the wordplay is given in the Concise Oxford and not in Chambers.

It might help to read 'Dateline' as 'Date-line.'
