Chambers gives 'shoo' as "to fix (a race) so that a particular horse wins (US sl)."

I have literally never heard or seen that usage

          Hence ''shoo in" I suppose?

I have never "gotten" cryptic crosswords and am afraid they aren't high on my list of things to learn.

Though I do think I know something about US usage, if only for having been around for 60 years. Kev's supposition is almost certainly correct, but while "shoo in" is mainstream, I've never heard "shoo" as a verb (or "shoo in" applied to horse racing).

A bit harsh. Guy is often difficult to read, but in this case he was taking the piss out of himself (having done the same on at least one occasion)

Well, the clue was meant in jest too...

Ibuprofen is an anagram of "fun rob pie"
Also it is a "pill for migraine" which sounds like "pilfer my grain"

I don't think it works as a clue as the definition bit has been made cryptic itself

thanks... yes i think i agree. smart but unsolvable

Yes, I anticipated it would trigger the klaxon. The definition is there if the clue is read in the way indicated, though I accept that won't satisfy everyone.

It would certainly have been clunkier to include a (further) definition of ibuprofen, and I would hope we don't need to take our fun too seriously on this thread.
