                                Is Lumber Jill an expression? Never heard it before (though I can't say I hang around with loggers).

                                    BTW there have been a few recently that i don't follow. How does Lucy Bronze work, for example (I get, and applaud, Lyon's XI bit, but the rest...)? Also, Lumber?

                                      At first Lucy = L
                                      Bronze = UMBER

                                      Second = B
                                      Lumber Jill = LOGGER [should be a single word but I took a liberty ]

                                          anagram (= transferred) of 'unpredictably' with 'pined at' having left -> LUCYBR

                                          French for (= Lyon's) XI -> ONZE
