Very good crossword by Brendan in todays Guardian, incidentally. He and Paul are, by some distance, my favourite setters. Their puzzles are always great fun to solve.
It probably is, yeah - they have similarish styles. I'm not a huge fan of Araucaria, to be honest. Well, I am a bit, but I don't find his puzzles and his clues to be as great as some do. Occasionally he'll come out with something really inspired but most of the time he won't, is my thoughts.
Paul, on the other hand, while quite Araucarian, is, for me, much more consistently witty, and his puzzles nearly always have at least one clue that makes me smile.
Brendan is a bit easier than either of them but his clueing is frequently ingenious, I reckon, and he has an enjoyable theme in pretty much every crossword he creates.
