I think we're aware of at least one cheater.

Not seen him leveraging 18/3s before though. Whether it’s a system error or sinister, X11 should be made aware.

Official X11 Ladies League Cup, Season 56, Round 5.
And as we crest the rise, the vast savannah of the Xpert Arena is spread before us, glittering in the virtual light.

            Code:
            Drakaina 1 - 1 Sharpinas
            Petit 62' A.E.T. Frias 57'

            Sharpinas won 8-7 on penalties

Space Chicks 1 - 1 Kanjeng Ratu Kidul WFC
            Bergamo 89' A.E.T. Luangpruksachat 62'

Space Chicks won 4-2 on penalties

            Viking South Utsira 1 - 0 Albion
            K.Hovland 24'
Drakaina were back in Round 5 for the first time in three seasons, and were looking to match their best ever run which saw them reach the 6th round back in Season 50. Standing in the way of Etienne and co were fellow Division 3 side Sharpinas.
The Dragons shaded the first half on chances, with their hosts taking the majority of the possession. That was also the case after the break, but this time with goals sprinkled in, first for Sharpinas on 57 minutes, Sandrine Petit levelling five minutes later.
That was how things stood at the end of normal time. And the end of extra time, as the match went to a shoot out. Drakaina went first, Roseanne Beattie scoring. Sharpinas responded, but Laria Sietaridis made it 2-1. Veteran ‘keeper, Aisling Boyne, who was potentially playing her last ever pro match before retirement, saw off the next kick to put her side in control. However, that didn’t last for long as Susanna Barry failed to convert the very next kick.
These misses were followed by a run of 11 successful penalties on the spin, Maria Gudlandur, Elena Gitsis, Florica Vulturescu, Petit and Sandra Byzhyti netting for the Greeks. In amongst that we moved past the fifth kick and into sudden-death, which is exactly where things stood after Ariadne Kavazis missed Drakaina’s ninth attempt. However Boyne was not ready to hang up her gloves yet, keeping her side alive with another block. Sadly the ‘keepers shooting boots were as good as she took and missed kick ten and this time there was no reprieve as the Sharpinas’ 10th taker was their goalscorer from the 90 minutes.
That new frontier will have to wait another day.

For the third time in the past four seasons, Kanjeng Ratu Kidul WFC flew over to the island that holds the Arena to play a Round 5 match. The Sea Goddesses had won one and lost one in that time, and were looking to make that a positive overall score against Space Chicks of Division 3, i.e. one step higher than Kanjeng operate at.
Despite that SeanoftheShed’s charges more than held their own, and indeed went ahead in the 62nd minute when Thao-Ap Luangpruksachat headed home. The Indonesians were within touching distance of the next stage, until it was snatched from their hands as the Space Chicks grabbed an 89th minute leveller.
After a typically cagey extra period, it was down to penalties. These began to go wrong for the Sea Spirits from the very first kick which Diksha Dalmiya saw saved. Utami Sangaji scored Kanjeng’s next but when Jolanda Dennen also failed with the third it was close to curtains. Kacey Rust kept the dream briefly alive, but with the Space Chicks going four from four the dream was over for another season.

Our final matched pitted once renowned but not so much recently Cup fighters Viking South Utsira against an Albion from Division 1, one step lower than The Blood Eagles.
The opening of the game was reasonably cautious, but then, rather out of the blue, Viking’s first serious attack ended with Kristin Hovland heading them into the lead. One up, Velvet Android’s side adopted the risky strategy of sitting on their advantage. That gave Albion a lot of possession, but not all that many shots. It stay 1-0 until the 75th minute, 80th minute, 85th, 90th, 91st, 92nd, final whistle! Viking were through to Round 6 for the first time since making the Quarter-Final in Season 51.
A return to form for The Blood Eagles, or a brief hurrah? Division 1b side Triestina will be the ones to test that out.

Regular readers with rather long memories might dimly recall the fun Penwith Players have been having in the Heineken League, to wit: four consecutive promotions from inception, then getting stuck at the HLC13 for a while.

It's been 13 consecutive seasons, which have encompassed missing out by one place, in fourth, on four seperate occasions.

At Players HQ it's like the punch-the-air freezeframe from the end of The Breakfast Club this evening. At the end of Season 54:

              Games played: 22
              Wins: 18
              Draws: 0
              Defeats: 4
              Goals for: 75
              Goals against: 16
              Goal difference: 59
              Position: 1

Thank, and I can't state this strongly enough, FUCK for that.

              (Now for a rebuild)

Great work Auntie. The Old Spots were becalmed in HLC9 for what felt like an eternity but nothing compared with the Players’ achievement of endurance. If it helps, once that duck was broken the promotions came quite regularly.

Elsewhere, it’s encouraging to see that lately when we’ve had managerial departures in the Human League they have been filled quite rapidly. We are approaching season’s end with a full quotient of fifty active teams. Football-wise congrats to Etienne as Suffragette City have reasserted their stranglehold on the title after Just Plain Random’s blip last season.

Thanks, Sits. And on the subject of the Human League, my Empire State Humans have managed a second consecutive 7th place in division 1 - maybe something to build upon.

Must say, your admin work, just like Sean's over on the Heineken, VA on the Brythonnic, and Etienne's on the OTF, is hugely appreciated. That doesn't get said enough, there or here.

Thank you Auntie. A more mature league to some extent runs itself.

What have we here, then? Jdsx upping sticks from Erbil to take the very tempting looking job at Division 1a outfit Gastelle?? Er, yes, that would be a good summary of the situation.
The new boss arrived to find the side adrift in the relegation zone and on a run of six defeats in their previous seven that included a 5-0 hammering in their last match. However, most of this can be attributed to the previous boss going AWOL, with the losses coming up in their absence until the board lost patience and sacked them in absentia. When the previous incumbent was still showing up, Gastelle were unbeaten in their first three games; Jdsx inherits a very strong, if slightly ageing, squad.
There was no time to get feet under the desk as the first match was a vital one against fellow strugglers Spearwives of Ygritte. With four points between the sides (in the Spearwives favour) at the start of play, it was one that Gastelle really needed to win. The team looked like they fully appreciated that as they took the game by the scruff of the next. A dominant first half display was capped by Jessica Dickson giving the hosts the lead, the second half being less tilted in Gastelle’s favour but ending in much the same fashion when Paula Stenqvist struck in the 83rd minute.
The home fans chatter on leaving the Lemon Grove was very positive about the new regime. The short term situation certainly looks better with the three points, as it leaves Gastelle now just four adrift of safety.

Division 3d leaders Drakaina were prohibitive favourites when they took on a Championettes outfit that were bottom of the table, without a point to their names from the opening eight games.
The expected pattern did take a while to assert itself though as Championettes put up a spirited fight for the opening 45 minutes. Yes, they still fell behind on 14 minutes when Elena Gitsis struck, and yes they would have been further behind if Matilda Källgren’s 28th minute effort had stood. But Ann Onym disallowed it, and the visitors equalised on the stroke of half-time.
That was both against the run of play and not, as the openings were two a piece in the first half, albeit with possession heavily stacked in favour of Etienne’s side. That sort of disparity had to pay dividends eventually, and it didn’t take long after the restart for the payments to begin rolling in, Källgren getting her name unequivocally on the scoresheet in the 47th minute. By now normal service was in operation, with Laria Sietaridis confirming The Dragons win with a 76th minute header.
Elsewhere in the same section Viking South Utsira hosted a Careerwoman Blues side one place and point higher than The Blood Eagles in the mid-table zone.
The first half was quiet, with just one shot for the Blues during it. It didn’t take long after the restart for more life to emerge though, Emilie Klovning firing Velvet Android’s side in front in the 49th minute. Viking then attempted to sit back and hold on to that lead. They got within five minutes before their visitors found a way to level.
That was the end of the scoring, the draw seeing both teams lose a place. VSU now sit fifth in the table, albeit four points clear of the drop zone. Meanwhile, Drakaina remain top and clear by a point.

Coxy Ladies Wulpen’s advantage at the summit of Division 4j was four points ahead of their trip to Dial L for Ladies.
The Waders were never able to get into their game in this one though as Dial L put in a strong performance. The first half was even in general terms, but it was the hosts who had the chances and went ahead late in the piece. They continued to press after the break, but didn’t add to their advantage.
That gave Wulpen a chance, and boss Janik thought his side were on steal a point when Aurelie Wostijn turned the ball home in the 76th minute. This was disallowed however, and the disappointment was compounded within seconds when Alicia Leclercq picked up her second yellow card in quick succession. And this time, Coxy Ladies couldn’t outdo their opponents with 10, as had happened on two other times recently.
The defeat saw the top of the 4j table concertina right up. Wulpen remain at the head, but are now only one point ahead of second. And third. With fourth just another point back.

Assignments don’t come much tougher than the one that faced Kanjeng Ratu Kidul WFC on matchday 9 as they travelled to Scotland to take on leaders Stirling Stallions.
The first meeting of the teams in Indonesia had ended as a 4-1 win for the visitors, which meant SeanoftheShed’s side were going to be very tense in this one. Right? Wrong. The Sea Goddesses boss opted for a very attacking formation. This led to a reduction in possession, but bodies available when chances were created. Such as in the 11th when Rahma Ikmal had an effort disallowed and in the 43rd when Diksha Dalmiya didn’t.
The Sea Spirits were doing more than hanging on after the break, as their formation made them seek a second. A good plan… but that killer goal wasn’t coming. And that put them at risk to Stirling converting one of their chances, which is what finally happened in the 86th minute. Ooh, so close!
A very good point, but it was another draw, Kanjeng’s sixth out of nine Division 4k games this season. That record leaves them sixth, a point from safety.

Only one team for us to check on now Jdsx has flown the Erbil coop, and that is LNWR Locomotive. The Steamers looked to add to the heat they were putting on the leaders by seeing off mid-table Stoke City Ladies XI.
Locomotive were building the pressure from the start, pushing Stoke back and creating chances. It just needed someone to take the handbrake off. That individual was Tekla Severinsson, who headed in the opener on 51 minutes.
Now Viktor Boskovic’s side were moving freely. They were able to absorb the loss of skipper Ekaterina Gileva, who was forced from the field with a 12-day knock 15 minutes from time, and put the game to bed a few minutes later through Flávia Reisinho’s finish.
Elsewhere in Division 5:17, Erbil’s position as leaders meant they proved a plum job, the position being taken immediately. Despite having someone with a hand on the tiller they still drew their game, which was enough for Locomotive to zoom past and into the 5:17 lead.

After two straight (very useful) draws against the Division 5:19 leaders, Ullapool Northern Star were looking to return to winning ways when they hosted Athletic Mizil.
Delciatemoth’s side saw loads of the ball in the first half… and struggled to think of anything to do with it! 60% possession somehow added up to nary a single shot. Mizil, by contrast, had let loose two at Helen Hess’ goal.
Star’s first effort of the day came seconds into the second half. And it was successful Núbia Almeida finding the target. That did little to encourage the Scots to attack though, and they paid for their cautious approach just before the hour when Mizil levelled.
There was to be no more scoring as Ullapool drew a third in a row, and this time trooped off disappointed with their haul. With two of the sides above them in the table winning, it means they are now four points adrift of first and second spots, but still a healthy five clear of the bottom three.

When a team is having a tricky season, what they need is a standout result to kick start things. Menywod Maeshafn certainly fell into that category as last season’s beaten play-off finalists found themselves in the drop zone ahead of visiting a play-off contender for this season, As Scuttettes.
At times results haven’t matched performances for IsThatcherDeadYet’s charges. 4 minutes in, and hopes were high that this wouldn’t be one of those days after Justine Bellamont crashed the ball in from long range. And after that, Maeshafn didn’t look back. Chance after chance was created. Ellinor Lydell thought she had made it two on 49 minutes only to be denied by ref Ian Hartman. But no matter, Morgan Beck rose to head home eight minutes later to ensure the one scrubbed out could be forgotten.
And that was that. As comprehensive a 2-0 away win as one could wish for. And a necessary one, as the two sides directly above the Welsh outfit also won. It means they remain seventh in the Division 5:27 standings, but only two points behind when anything less than a win would have had them more than a game’s worth of points adrift.

The Csiki Girls, pushing for promotion, travelled to The Black Widows, who are battling relegation for their ninth game of the league campaign.
Two minutes in, The Black Widows scored. The good news for Csiki’s boss ad hoc was Ella McGee’s strike was into her own net. That set the Csiki’s on their way, and they completely dominated the rest of the first half. Shots rained in on the Widows goal, Floriane Smet’s 31st minute effort making it 2-0.
A potential spanner in the works came in the last few minutes of the half though when young defender Justine Aymes committed a professional foul and received her marching orders. It was just Aymes third ever match! Would that see a turn around? No, not really. Instead Carlota Igreja made it 3-0 on 52 minutes and the Csiki’s shut up shop thereafter.
The win, combined with leaders Universitatea Cluj losing, moved Csiki Girls up to second in the Division 5:31 table. They trail the new table toppers Blood Brothers (who beat Cluj) by a point, and hold a +2 GD advantage over Gaia Superior in third. It’s all very tight.

Zeugma Dostluk Spor are doggedly pursuing the Division 6:54 leaders. They (Marianne in Chains) are showing few signs of slipping up though, which adds extra pressure to matches such as Zeugma’s trip to the banks of the Thames to take on lower mid-table London Lovers.
An early strike can ease the nerves, and boss Antepli Ejderha got exactly that in the 19th minute through Makbule Mansiz’ effort. A second would have lightened things even further, but that isn’t how the various sides from the Zeugma region have tended to roll. And anyway, as has so often been the case, one was enough.
Something did change at the top of the 6:54 table after this round, though. Not the gap between the top two, which remains at five points, but Zeugma’s advantage over Haruhiists in third. They suffered a shock defeat and are now four points behind AE’s girls.

Official X11 Ladies League Cup, Season 56, Round 6.
One loan Eagle hovers above the Sea Cliffs. What prey does it spot?

Viking South Utsira’s attempt to reach the last 16 of the Cup for the first time in five seasons pitted them against Division 1 outfit Triestina.
The game proved to be a tight one, with few chances at either end. The side from the Adriatic were dominating control of the ball though as The Blood Eagles chased shadows for long periods. It looked like the effort was going to pay off though as the score remained nil-nil deep into the second half. However, just when Velvet Android’s side thoughts were turning to extra-time, the sucker punch came as Triestina got a head to a corner and nodded the winner.
There was no time to do much about this as Viking exited at the Round 6 stage for the fifth time in club history, four of which have come under the current boss.

Not every week that two of my teams clinch divisional titles. Rock City Ferrets always looked decent bets for OTF Div One (sealed with a win over Hideous Towns) but I didn't expect Penelope Pittsburgh to come roaring past Mermaids FC (beating them in the last match to nick Human League Div Three). Great work, imaginary footballers!

Nice going DM! I myself am bracing against the improbable impact of the Kneebiters finally winning something after umpteen seasons of sweet soothing nothingness. We only need two* more points from two games...

Trying not to get too excited, since it is still eminently possible that Leverkusen Nieuwegein Kneebiters drop to fourth place. That would be more typical.

*one if Vita Mortis drop any points in their final two games.

Jdsx’s second match in charge of Gastelle saw him take his side to Cutty Sark Crew, who have also had a recentish managerial change.
The fortunes of the new bosses look likely to diverge, however. Cutty Sark were bottom of the table and winless coming into the match, with just three points to their names. Which is a total Gastelle had already matched one game into their new boss’s tenure. They were on their way to doubling it when Harriet Ålander headed them in front in the 24th minute, but couldn’t fully relax until Fernanda Perdao added a second directly from a free-kick with 75 on the clock.
After that it was just a question of ‘how many?’ The answer was four, Rosey Dickson firing in from range on 79 minutes and defensive superstar Blenda Alsegård (grade 22 in this match) getting in on the act when she did likewise two minutes from time for a very rare goal. Just the third in 235 matches in fact for a player who is more known for her insatiable destroying of other teams attacks than her scoring prowess.
The win moved Gastelle up to sixth in the Division 1a table, just two points from safety. And only five adrift of Hippy Chicks, who currently occupy second place in the standings. Who just happen to be the next opponents. Win that one as well, and who knows…?

The second and last OTF derby of the season in Division 3d saw Viking South Utsira hosting Drakaina.
The teams sat fifth and first respectively at the start of play, but with only five points between them; a Blood Eagles win would close things right up whereas one for The Dragons and Utsira would be well adrift of promotion. Viking were the first to threaten. In fact Birgit Austrheim was wheeling away in celebration in the 7th minute until she saw that ref Ann Onym was indicating a foul to Drakaina.
Three minutes later Velvet Android’s side again came close to taking the lead, Kristin Hovland firing in a shot from a narrow angle that rattled the Greek crossbar. Instead, it was the visitors who struck first, Susanna Barry’s thumping header from a 17th minute corner nearly bursting the net. And it would have been two on 23 minutes, but for an excellent save from Monike Austrheim who flung herself full length to fingertip Matilda Källgren’s well-placed shot around the post.
The game then went through an extended lull, the only opening coming just after the hour mark for Hovland, but she put her shot straight at Anastasia Shkolnikova. The Blood Eagles had another chance to level on 79 minutes when Ulrikke Klovning burst clear. Her attempt to lob Shkolnikova was not quite high enough however and the Dragons ‘keeper punched it away.
Etienne’s side finished on top, Barry lobbing a header over Monike Austrheim in the 82nd minute but seeing it just clear the bar as well and Sandrine Petit driving in a shot that Austrheim saved. However, the one Drakaina already had was enough to claim a victory that maintained their three point lead at the top of the standings. Defeat left VSU a bit marooned in fifth, with four point gaps to both the side directly above them and also the one a place below.

Coxy Ladies Wulpen’s cushion at the top of the Division 4j table had been whipped from under them by a Matchday 9 defeat. If that was repeated against Misconduct United The Waders would slip to at best third in the table.
The consequences of a loss seem to put the fear into Wulpen, who produced a nervy, cautious performance. In fact, they didn’t even attempt a single shot in the game. They were, at least, solid at the back. For 89 minutes. Sadly for boss Janik in the 90th Misconduct won a free-kick and scored it to claim the spoils.
So third then? No, actually fourth as another result was the specific one required for this. However Coxy Ladies are still very involved in the promotion race as they only trail the new leaders, Misconduct, by a point and are only behind the sides in second and third on goal difference. They do need to stop losing, though…

Two teams with too many draws clashed at Merapi-Kraton-South Sea when Kanjeng Ratu Kidul WFC took on (ugh) Spandex FC.
I’m not going to dwell to long on this one, as it didn’t go well for SeanoftheShed’s side. They were on the back foot for most of the game, and whilst Utami Sangaji’s 80th minute strike raised hopes as it dragged the score back to 1-2, it turned out to be more of a consolation than a resurgence.
The consequences of the defeat were not good for The Sea Spirits – they remain sixth in the Division 4k table, and are now three points adrift of safety.

LNWR Locomotive were looking to build on their assent to the top of the Division 5:17 table when they took on San Francisco 9ers.
The Steamers completely dominated possession, having a full two-thirds of the ball in the first half, but found it hard to break through a massed Frisco defence. As the match progress, however, Viktor Boskovic’s side found themselves with less of the ball as their visitors emerged cautiously from their shells. And this actually worked in Locomotive’s favour as the chances finally came, and with it an opening goal finished by Maja Teigland in the 70th mnute.
Flávia Reisinho made it two with 82 on the clock, which wrapped up the victory, LNWR’s seventh of the season. They stay top, a point clear of Erbil, who have climbed back to second spot. The sides meet next week in what is still a huge match, even if it’s no longer an OTF derby.

A bunch of recent draws had kept Ullapool Northern Star both in contention for promotion from Division 5:19 and also a little bit on the outside looking in to the promotion battle. If they wanted to get fully involved, a win at relegation-battling Fulwood Rovers WFC was called for.
The clarion call was heard loud and clear by Delicatemoth’s team. Utsira native Renate Klovning wasted no time in opening the scoring, walking the ball in in the second minute at the end of an incisive breakaway move. Another rapid break out in the 14th minute was finished by Vanja Wendel to make it two, and when Julie Taggart headed home a corner midway through the opening half, the game was already won.
Klovning got her second of the day from range in the 53rd minute, her brace nearly doubling her return for Northern Star in what has been a 65-game career to date. And with that, both teams knocked off as the deal was done.
The win wasn’t enough to move Ullapool up a spot in the standings, they remain fourth, but they are now just two points out of the play-off place and four behind the leaders.

I think we now have to accept that Menywod Maeshafn are in a battle to stay up this season. The Welsh side were likely going to need everything to go their way against Femme Fatale FC, who sat second in the table.
IsThatcherDeadYet’s luck was initially in as Femme Fatale had a first half strike disallowed. However, things would turn pretty dramatically in the last fifteen minutes as a number of blows rained down on Maeshafn. First Ada Westerberg had a goal chalked off by Tony Nolan, but the legendarily officious ref really struck in the 82nd minute when showed Tina Käck a second yellow card. Both calls were probably right by the rules, but showed no understanding of the game.
Maeshafn really paid for going down to 10 as Femme Fatale struck twice in the last five minutes to truly make it a horrendous end to the game for the hosts. Nolan had to be escorted from the pitch to protect him from the wrath of the incandescent home fans, whose side still find themselves sixth in the Division 5:27 standings, three points from safety but with a substantially better GD than the side they are chasing.

Csiki Girls took on Barca Ladies FC in the thick of a promotion battle. The Csiki’s that is, not Barca. By contrast, they are about the only mid-table side in this league.
Ad hoc’s charges took the game to their visitors from the outset, not in the least put off by Barca’s eye-straining fluorescent lime green away kit. Incessant pressure forced the corner that led to the opening goal in the 25th minute, Bethany Austin heading home.
The chances kept coming for the hosts after the break, but they couldn’t relax until a second was scored. That arrived around midway through the half, and was an unlikely but much appreciated scorer, 16 year-old Ginger Crampsey marking her third senior appearance with a first goal. Athird was also added by the more experienced but still young Norma Ackland with just over ten minutes to play.
These were seen out quietly, the win being by a big enough margin to keep Csiki Girls second in the Division 5:31 standings. Just. And that is looking both upwards and down. Below the Transylvanians, Gaia Superior are level on points and just -1 GD adrift, whereas looking towards the summit show it very close, Blood Brothers having a point more but an inferior GD.

Recent weeks’ have seen Zeugma Dostluk Spor racking up the wins they need to try and chase down the Division 6:54 leaders in typical Zeugma franchise fashion; grinding 1-0s. The latest team they were trying to reduce to a fine powder were Real Madrid CFF.
The match would fit with the style Zeugma boss Antepli Ejderha has employed at many of his clubs, as his side stopped the opposition having a single shot, but also struggled to create openings of their own. They only managed a single attempt on goal in the opening half, and just one after the break as well. That opening came in the 69th minute from a wide free-kick. This was chipped up, knocked down and clipped home Suzan Özköylü.
And that proved to be enough as Zeugma maintained their strong hold on the Division 6:54 play-off spot (they are four points clear of third-place) but also got no succour from elsewhere in chasing the leaders, who also retain their five point cushion.
