Hope things get less stressful for you soon Wouter.
Ad hoc, I resigned because I felt guilty for screwing up my attempt to meet your perfectly reasonable request about timing of moves. Basically I had a moment of muppetry where I got confused as to the dates and thought your email was more recent by 24 hours than it actually was (and hence thought that you probably hadn't gone off-grid yet), so I made a move in order that you could make a pre-departure move, then realised too late that you would have already left. Last night I saw that you had only 7 hours left to respond and I certainly wasn't planning on getting out of bed before that deadline elapsed, so I resigned in order that you wouldn't lose on time while I slept. Given our relative abilities it would have been a travesty for you to lose, and a confimation of an a priori 99.9 per cent probability for you to win. Also, from a purely selfish perspective, if you'd lost on time it would have messed up my own "best win" record on the site's stats.
As I mentioned on the Div 2 football thread in the context of the discussion about Leeds getting promoted when WBA lost early on Friday evening, making a badly timed chess move was sadly not the most stupid, and certainly not the most expensive, thing I did on Friday.

Yes, I think you're right Sam. I think matches generally don't "count", either for rating adjustment or (as you point out) for "best win" records unless a certain minimum number of moves have been played (3 moves by each player perhaps, or maybe 4?). If I'd known that, and if I'd also known that 3 other players would get wins against ad hoc on time I might have let ad hoc lose on time. Anyway, it's of no consequence - I've pretty much given up being competitive.
For what feels like perhaps the 3rd or 4th time in recent tournaments, I've managed to play on opening against Etienne so badly that he has essentially trashed my position within a small number of moves. It always seems to be Etienne, maybe he specialises in "opening lines with nasty traps for muppets" [insert smiley].

ha, you and me both then Wouter. I should mention that I had no idea (as you may not have either) when I posted yesterday about my match w Etienne, that the previous day he had announced a temporary departure, for some months, from this board (see "Missing Inaction" thread on World).

Etienne just resigned the move after I made a blunder bringing the computer rating solidly back to 0.00. I wasn't really sure what to say to him there. I was well on top after a blunder by him and then threw the game away, to be rewarded with a win. I am very confused.
I've also had a moment of madness against ad hoc, which isn't something one can afford against that quality of play. Sick as a parrot.

I have twice tried to resign my match against Levin in the last few moves, but the "resign" button on the mobile version of the site doesn't seem to work on my phone - i press it repeatedly and nothing happens. [Edit: which is clearly a new, and hopefully temporary, problem as I managed to resign my first match against ad hoc as noted upthread.]

- Fig roll - deal with it.
Seeing as I fucked up and lost out on time again in three matches, I was going to concede to Sam so that we could all pack up and go home. However, if there is something riding on it, I shan't.
In saying that, maybe it is fairer if I concede as I did lose so many on time.
