Day 27 report:
If you're of a certain age, today's solution - or, at least, the one that most of us saw - has an aptness when there's a stack of classified results to deliver:
nmrfox beat Rogin the Armchair fan 2 & 1 - setting a new record low aggregate of 57 strokes, and Foxy matches Simon G's individual mark of 8 under par
Artificial Hipster halved with Simon G - both preserving impressive unbeaten runs
Auntie Beryl beat San Bernardhinault 1 UP - nothing, but nothing, can shake AB off an alternating W-L sequence that now extends to nine matches
Logan Mountstuart beat WOM 2 UP - netting a tidy five-point gain to rise clear of the foot of the ladder
Harbinger of Hope beat Balderdasha 2 & 1 - replicating ale's successful formula of dealing predominantly in par scores
Discordant Resonance beat David Agnew 1 UP - conjuring a round of 4 under par having been 6 over for the first two rounds
Owing to a technological glitch we are denied a synchronised, grandstand finish, as Sam and Uncle Ethan look to conclude business tomorrow. Although it's not for me to dictate when they play, if they maintain their usual routines there should be no obstacle to getting the Round 4 pairings out on Wednesday in time for the scheduled tee-off on Thursday.
To judge by the stroke average (4.31) of those competing, this was the most fiendish hole of the round.

Likewise, irony towers.
Getting the popcorn ready for STARE 2. They're only 1 point apart at the top on the updated grading ladder too, so they're playing for the double.

Prepare for a crushing defeat Guy Profumo. Could be yours, but most likely mine, you never know. Let's leave it loose for now...

Eek, finding a bit of good form for a couple of matches has suddenly catapulted me into the area of the draw where there's a lot of sharks I see. Looking forward to teeing off with you nonethless Auntie Beryl.

Round 4 preamble:
The Swiss tournament pairing system has listened, and it gets it. The clamour for a face-off between the Wordle wizards is satisfied. Logan Mountstuart has already whipped up the hype for the winner-takes-all-though-possibly-nothing clash, and I shan't try to top that.
Leading the ABF chants will be ad hoc and pebblethefish, either of whom could yet take the crown via a playoff route should nmrfox's 100% tournament run falter.
Perhaps we'll be treated to another El Spoonico spectacular. David Agnew certainly has previous for some belting match-ups.
Apart from a playoff for the championship, if that's required for players who are tied for the lead in match points, other tied scores will be resolved by the Sonneborn-Berger tiebreak system used for chess tournaments: {final match points of players you beat} + (0.5 x final match points of players with whom you halved}. If that doesn't resolve a tie, placings will be determined according to the proportion of holes that each player won throughout the tournament.
Gladiators, ready?
