After a summer of free-form one-on-one matchplay, I trust there's an appetite for putting the band back together in a bid to wrest the matchplay tournament crown that was claimed in commanding style by nmrfox back in March.
By now the format of Wordle matchplay will be familiar to most who visit this thread, but here's a link to the WMT1 thread for anyone who'd like a refresher/introduction.
This tournament is for individual matchplay (we'll do another Ryder Cup in November), and will run on broadly the same lines as the inaugural one, ie four rounds of nine-hole matchplay with Swiss-style pairings (see explanation below). The context is altered somewhat given that the grading ladder is now established, so there will be some adaptations for WMT2:
Wed 24/8 last date for pre-WMT2 grading ladder matches to begin
Thu 1/9 last date for entries for WMT2
Fri 2/9 Round 1 pairings published
Sat 3/9 ROUND 1 MATCHES BEGIN (Wordle game 441)
Sat 24/9 last date for players electing to be cut from Rounds 3 & 4. Round 3 pairings will be posted Sun 25/9 at the earliest
Entries for the matchplay tournament are open NOW. To register your entry, simply reply in this thread or send me a PM.

(I haven't retagged others who frequent the spoilers thread if they've previously indicated that matchplay isn't for them, though of course they'd be very welcome if attitudes have changed in the meantime)
Any questions, please ask.

The context is altered somewhat given that the grading ladder is now established, so there will be some adaptations for WMT2:
- Results in WMT2 will also count towards the grading ladder in matches where both players are on the ladder. It is NOT an entry requirement for WMT2 that you are on the grading ladder, though of course you are very welcome if you choose to join at any time.
- Players' grades will be a reference point for pairings according to the Swiss system; appropriate provision will be made for entrants who have taken part in previous tournaments and have not (yet) joined the ladder, as well as for newbies. In a 'pure' Swiss system where all players are graded, the Round 1 matches for, say, 24 entrants would pair the top-graded player with the 13th-ranked, 2nd v 14th and so on. In subsequent rounds, as far as is practicable you are paired with someone who has the same number of match points, and you cannot face the same opponent in more than one round.
- After the first two matchplay rounds, players may voluntarily elect to be 'cut' if their standing in the tournament is such that they would prefer to concentrate only on the grading ladder, or simply to discontinue. No one will be cut involuntarily.
